Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

Software module brings AI-based cell identification and segmentation to BioTek Gen5 imaging workflows

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced the launch of the Agilent BioTek Gen5 AI cell identification module, a new image analysis software add-on that incorporates AI-based cell identification and segmentation into BioTek Gen5 imaging analysis.

Developed for use with compatible Agilent BioTek automated imaging systems, the module uses AI-based segmentation without requiring conventional threshold setting or parameter tuning. By incorporating the capability into the familiar Gen5 software environment, the module is designed to reduce manual image-analysis steps and support consistent cell counting and confluence analysis across supported applications.

Conventional threshold-based segmentation can require researchers to establish and optimize analysis parameters for individual experiments. These additional steps can introduce user-dependent variation and present challenges as laboratories adopt higher-throughput imaging workflows and generate increasing volumes of image-based data. The Gen5 AI image analysis module provides researchers with an AI-based approach designed to simplify this process within their established BioTek imaging workflow.

The module supports label-free and fluorescence, live-cell and kinetic assays commonly used in life science and pharmaceutical research environments. Its integration with Gen5 enables researchers using compatible BioTek Cytation and Lionheart automated imagers to apply AI-based segmentation within their existing imaging assays.

“With the Gen5 AI Cell Identification Module, Agilent is bringing AI-based segmentation directly into the established BioTek imaging workflow,” Xavier Amouretti, vice president and BioTek business unit leader at Agilent, said. “This practical application of AI is designed to reduce the effort associated with image analysis and help researchers move more efficiently from image acquisition to quantitative results.”

The launch expands the image-analysis capabilities available within Gen5 and reflects Agilent’s focus on integrating automation and AI into laboratory workflows. By reducing the number of steps needed for conventional threshold setting and parameter tuning across supported applications, Gen5 AI is designed to make AI-based cell analysis more accessible, enabling researchers to focus more time on generating insights for a broad range of life science research applications, including cell biology, neuroscience, drug discovery research and related biological studies.

Key Terms

segmentation technical
Segmentation is the practice of dividing a larger whole into smaller, more manageable parts—such as splitting customers into groups with similar needs, separating a company’s operations into reporting units, or isolating regions in a medical image. For investors, segmentation reveals where revenue, risk, or growth are concentrated, like reading a map that shows which neighborhoods drive traffic; that clarity helps assess performance, strategy and future prospects.
label-free technical
A label-free method detects and measures molecules, cells, or their interactions without attaching fluorescent, radioactive, enzymatic, or other artificial tags. It observes natural signals—such as changes in mass, refractive index, electrical properties, or optical resonance—so the subject is measured in a more native state. For investors, label-free technologies can mean simpler workflows, lower reagent costs, faster or real-time results, and platforms that may be applied across drug discovery, diagnostics, and biosensing.
kinetic assays technical
Laboratory tests that measure how quickly a biological or chemical reaction proceeds by recording changes in a signal (such as color, light, or concentration) over time. Like timing how fast a cake rises to judge the recipe, kinetic assays reveal reaction speed and consistency, information investors care about because these tests are used in drug discovery, diagnostics, product quality control and regulatory submissions to demonstrate potency, stability and reproducibility.
confluence analysis technical
Confluence analysis is the practice of looking for multiple, independent reasons that a particular price level or market direction is important, such as overlapping support or resistance lines, technical indicators, chart patterns, or fundamental events. It matters to investors because when several signals point to the same conclusion the signal is considered stronger—like several witnesses agreeing on the same fact—so it helps prioritize levels and ideas for attention. This is an analytical tool, not a guarantee of outcomes.
