Alvotech receives FDA approval for new SIMLANDI® manufacturing process that more than doubles output per batch

Higher output per batch allows the same quantity to be manufactured in fewer batches, freeing capacity for other portfolio products.

Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

Alvotech (ALVO) has received FDA approval for a new SIMLANDI manufacturing process that more than doubles drug substance output per batch.

The approval permits Process 2.0 in the company's DSM2 manufacturing suite in Reykjavik, Iceland. SIMLANDI (adalimumab-ryvk) is a biosimilar to Humira. The process increases output without changing the upstream manufacturing scale. Development, transfer and validation demonstrated comparability with the previously approved process, maintaining product quality, safety and efficacy.

Alvotech said producing the same quantity in fewer batches frees capacity for other portfolio products and provides greater flexibility to meet growing demand using existing infrastructure. The company also recently received FDA approval for additional manufacturing capacity.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

Key Terms

3 terms
biosimilar medical
"Alvotech’s biosimilar to Humira® (adalimumab)"
A biosimilar is a medicine created to be highly similar to an existing complex drug made from living cells, matching its safety and effectiveness while allowing for small, natural variations. For investors, biosimilars matter because they introduce lower-cost competition when patents end, which can cut prices, shift market share, and change revenue forecasts for companies selling the original drugs, much like a generic version does for simpler chemical medicines.
drug substance technical
"manufacture of adalimumab drug substance in its DSM2 manufacturing suite"
The drug substance is the primary active ingredient in a medicine—the chemical or biological material that produces the intended therapeutic effect. Think of it like the main ingredient in a recipe: its availability, purity, cost to make, and the ability to produce it at scale affect regulatory approvals, manufacturing reliability and profit margins, so investors watch it as a key factor in a drug’s commercial prospects and risk profile.
process validation technical
"successful process validation, with demonstrated comparability to the previously approved process"
Process validation is the documented proof that a manufacturing or production method reliably and consistently makes a product that meets required quality and safety standards. Think of it like proving a recipe always produces the same good cake: once validated, the process reduces the chance of defects, regulatory problems, production delays and costly recalls, so investors view it as a sign of lower operational and compliance risk.

Enhanced process increases manufacturing productivity and frees up capacity to support growing demand across Alvotech’s biosimilars portfolio

REYKJAVIK, Iceland and LONDON, UK (October 20, 2026) - Alvotech (NASDAQ: ALVO; ALVO-SDB), a global biotechnology company specializing in the development and manufacture of biosimilar medicines for patients worldwide, today announced
that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a new manufacturing process for SIMLANDI® (adalimumab-ryvk), Alvotech’s biosimilar to Humira® (adalimumab).

The FDA approval allows Alvotech to introduce Process 2.0 for the manufacture of adalimumab drug substance in its DSM2 manufacturing suite in Reykjavik, Iceland. The new process more than doubles drug substance output per batch without changing the upstream manufacturing scale.

The improvement was achieved through targeted process development, effective process transfer and successful process validation, with demonstrated comparability to the previously approved process, maintaining product quality, safety and efficacy.

“More than doubling drug substance output per batch while maintaining product quality is a significant achievement that reflects the expertise of our process development and manufacturing teams,” said Joseph McClellan, Chief Operating Officer of Alvotech. “The new process allows us to manufacture the same quantity of drug substance in fewer batches, freeing up capacity to support other products in our portfolio, making better use of our existing infrastructure and giving us greater flexibility to respond to growing demand. Together with the recent FDA approval of additional manufacturing capacity, this demonstrates the strength of our operations in Reykjavik and reinforces our ability to deliver reliable supply to our commercial partners as demand for our biosimilars continues to grow.”
