Ambarella, an edge AI semiconductor company, reported its financial results for Q1 FY2025 ending April 30, 2024. Revenue was $54.5 million, a 12% drop from $62.1 million in Q1 FY2024. GAAP gross margin increased slightly to 60.9%, up from 60.4%. The GAAP net loss widened to $37.9 million, or $0.93 per share, from $35.9 million, or $0.91 per share, a year earlier. On a non-GAAP basis, gross margin was 63.4%, up from 63.1%, and net loss was $10.5 million, or $0.26 per share, compared to $6.0 million, or $0.15 per share, in Q1 FY2024. Ambarella's guidance for Q2 FY2025 forecasts revenue between $60 million and $64 million, and non-GAAP gross margin between 62.5% and 64%.
The company has $203.3 million in cash and marketable securities, down from $219.9 million in the previous quarter and $227.4 million a year ago. CEO Fermi Wang noted early signs of AI inferencing growth at the network edge and several new customer wins in AI applications for EV passenger and commercial vehicles, as well as IoT markets.
Ambarella announced its latest AI systems-on-chip (SoCs), the CV75AX and CV72AX, at AutoSens USA. Aimed at in-vehicle fleet telematics systems, these new 5nm SoCs provide enhanced AI performance without fan cooling. The CV75AX offers up to 2x the AI performance of its predecessor and supports front-facing ADAS and DMS, while the CV72AX supports up to 10 cameras and offers 6x AI performance improvements for vision transformers and VLMs. Both SoCs feature Ambarella’s CVflow® 3.0 AI engine, doubled CPU performance, and are built on a 5nm FinFET process. They are also compatible with Ambarella’s Cooper Developer Platform for accelerated development.
