SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- California American Water is continuing work on a $1.4 million infrastructure project in the Fruitridge Vista Water District, where crews are installing new water meters at residential properties. This project began in late September and will continue through mid-January 2026, bringing modern metering to customers and their homes.

The project is designed to improve service reliability, enhance billing accuracy, and support California’s water efficiency goals. Once the project is completed, customers will transition from flat-rate billing to metered service, giving them clearer insight into their water use allowing for greater control over household costs.

“We’re making steady progress in Fruitridge Vista, and we appreciate the community’s cooperation as we complete this important work,” said Usmita Pokhrel, Engineering Manager for California American Water. “This investment strengthens our infrastructure and helps customers better understand and manage their water consumption.”

Because many water mains in Fruitridge Vista are located in backyards, residents are notified in advance when access is needed, and contractors provide at least 24 hours’ notice before any brief and mandatory service interruption. While construction is limited to weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., neighbors may also notice temporary traffic or parking restrictions near active work zones. California American Water emphasizes that safety remains a top priority for both workers and the community.

“Our crews are working hard to minimize disruption while keeping safety top of mind,” added Audie Foster, Director of Operations at California American Water’s Northern Division. “We thank residents for their patience as we deliver long-term benefits to the Fruitridge Vista community.”

The Fruitridge Vista Drop-in Meters Project reflects California American Water’s broader commitment to investing in infrastructure that strengthens communities, supports conservation, and helps ensure reliable service for generations to come. As work continues through January, the company remains focused on completing the project safely, efficiently, and with as little disruption as possible.
