More Than 1,400 Homes and Businesses Are Now Connected to America’s Smartest Broadband Network, an Additional 1,300+ Homes and Businesses to be Connected by Year-End

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Comcast has connected more than 1,400 previously unserved and underserved homes and businesses in Monongalia County, West Virginia to multi-gigabit, symmetrical fiber Internet from Xfinity and Comcast Business. Through its public-private partnership with Monongalia County, Comcast will ultimately connect more than 2,700 homes and businesses to high-speed Internet by the end of 2026.

“Reliable broadband is no longer a luxury, it’s crucial infrastructure,” said Monongalia County Commissioner Sean Sikora. “Through our partnership with Comcast, we’re proud to help close West Virginia’s digital divide by bringing more Monongalia County residents and businesses online to work, learn, access healthcare, accomplish everyday tasks and connect with family and friends.”

Residents can visit Xfinity.com/MyTown and enter their address for construction timing and service availability, and they can visit the local Xfinity Store located at 740 Venture Drive to get in-person support from the team. Customers are being connected across several areas of the county, including rural pockets in the western, central and eastern regions of the county, as well as Stewarts Run, River Road and Snake Hill.

The project, funded in part by the American Rescue Plan Act, brings Comcast’s fiber network to rural Monongalia County communities that have historically faced challenges getting online. By combining public and private investment, Monongalia County and Comcast are helping more residents and businesses get the connectivity they need today, while delivering a network built for the future – with the speed, reliability and capacity to power everything from remote work and learning to emerging technologies for years to come.

In addition to multi-gigabit, symmetrical fiber Internet from Xfinity, the expansion brings mobile, entertainment, and home security solutions, giving customers more speed and control over their connected lives. Plus, low-cost Internet options for low-income families are available through the Internet Essentials program from Xfinity. Newly connected communities across Monongalia County are now joining more than 65 million homes and businesses nationwide with access to a network that fuels innovation, productivity and everyday connection.

This expansion milestone is the latest in Comcast's broader investments across West Virginia. In Monongalia County alone, Comcast recently provided $30,000 in grants to West Virginia Women Work and the Morgantown Area Partnership to support workforce development and digital opportunity efforts, while also unveiling a newly renovated Xfinity Store in Morgantown. Beyond Monongalia County, Comcast continues to invest in network expansion across the state, including projects in Wheeling, the Northern Panhandle, Ona, Ceredo, and Kenova.

“Together, Comcast and Monongalia County are bringing more residents and businesses access to the full suite of Xfinity and Comcast Business services, which is especially meaningful for those who previously had limited or no high-speed Internet options," said Dan Bonelli, Regional Senior Vice President of Comcast. "As more West Virginians connect to our network, they'll gain access to our Internet, mobile, entertainment and home security offerings, with options that prioritize value and affordability such as our five-year price guarantee with Xfinity Internet or one line free for a year with Xfinity Mobile."

Key Terms

multi-gigabit technical
Multi-gigabit describes data transmission speeds that are several times faster than one gigabit per second, typically meaning network links or devices that can handle multiple gigabits of data each second. For investors, higher speeds are like widening a highway: they enable more users and services to run smoothly, support new bandwidth-hungry applications, and often signal demand for upgraded equipment and infrastructure that can drive revenue growth.
sd-wan technical
SD‑WAN is a technology that uses software to control and direct wide-area network traffic between offices, data centers and cloud services instead of relying solely on traditional hardware routers. Think of it as a smart traffic manager that chooses the fastest, cheapest or safest route for each data flow, improving performance, cutting telecom costs and simplifying upgrades. Investors care because it can lower operating expenses, enable faster cloud adoption and create steady demand for networking and security services.
5g technical
5G is the fifth generation of wireless technology that provides faster internet connections, lower latency, and greater capacity than previous networks. It enables quicker downloads, smoother streaming, and more reliable connections for devices. For investors, 5G represents a significant upgrade in technology infrastructure that can drive growth in related industries such as smartphones, smart cities, and the Internet of Things.
