Insights

Critical Metals advances Tanbreez rare earth project with NIRAS engagement to complete Definitive Feasibility Study, moving toward potential production in 2026.

Critical Metals Corp has taken a significant step forward by engaging NIRAS A/S to complete the Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) for its Tanbreez Rare Earth Project in Greenland. This engagement represents a crucial milestone in moving this strategic asset from development toward potential production.

The scope of the DFS is comprehensive, covering all essential aspects required for mine commercialization: final mine design, process engineering, logistics planning, and detailed financial modeling. The study will form the backbone of regulatory submissions to Greenland's authorities, effectively serving as the technical foundation for obtaining final approvals to begin commercial operations.

What makes this particularly notable is the 500,000 metric tons per annum production target, indicating substantial scale for this operation. The Tanbreez deposit is positioned as one of the world's largest rare earth deposits - significant given the critical importance of rare earth elements in technologies ranging from electric vehicles to defense systems.

The expected completion in Q4 2025 establishes a clear timeline for investors, with potential construction and initial production likely following in 2026, assuming regulatory approvals proceed as planned. Critical Metals' current controlling interest in the project, with rights to increase ownership to 92.5% following a $10 million investment, demonstrates the company's substantial commitment to and confidence in Tanbreez's potential.

The appointment of a Greenland-focused consultant to represent the company in regulatory and stakeholder interactions shows foresight regarding the importance of navigating local requirements and relationships - often a determining factor in mining project advancement in sensitive jurisdictions like Greenland.

Scope of the DFS and Regulatory Context

The Feasibility Study will address all technical, environmental, and commercial aspects of the Tanbreez project, including:

  • Final Mine Design & Production Scheduling for Bulk Mining of Stratabound Kakortokite-Hosted Mineralization
  • Process Plant Engineering for the Production of Feldspar, Arfvedsonite and Eudialyte Concentrates
  • Material Handling, Logistics & Export Options via the Fjord System
  • Capital & Operating Cost Estimates
  • Environmental & Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Integration
