Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

  • The Bank's return on equity through the first nine months of 2026 was 10.36% as compared to 12.24% one year ago. • GAAP capital totaled $243.1 million at September 30, 2026. The Bank's equity to assets ratio totaled 10.3% on September 30, 2026. Unrealized losses increased from $44.6 million to $62.3 million at the end of the third quarter.

Cash, Cash Equivalents and Restricted Cash

Total cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash totaled $135.1 million at September 30, 2026, compared to $270.0 million at September 30, 2025. Much of the Bank's loan portfolio growth has been funded out of cash on hand.

Loans and Credit Quality

Gross loans totaled $1.156 billion as of September 30, 2026 which represented an increase of $202.5 million from December 31, 2025 and an increase of $190.8 million from September 30, 2025. This growth has been the result of concerted efforts to increase loan balances as a percentage of our earning assets. With 58.5% loans to deposits as of September 30, 2026, we continue to benefit from a conservative risk profile with plenty of liquidity available to support our customers and communities.

At September 30, 2026, the allowance for credit losses on loans (ACL) was 1.02% of gross loans as compared to 1.26% one year ago. The allowance balance was $11.8 million as of September 30, 2026 as compared to $12.1 million as of September 30, 2025.

Credit quality remained strong with non-performing loans representing 0.23% of gross loans as of September 30, 2026. This was a decrease from 0.48% as of September 30, 2025.

The decrease was largely a product of share repurchases totaling $24.6 million that were completed in the first and second quarters of 2026.

GAAP capital reflected a decrease of $19.2 million from September 30, 2025, and a decrease of $29.4 million from December 31, 2025. As of September 30, 2026, the Bank's GAAP capital to assets ratio was 10.4% as compared to 11.6% as of September 30, 2025. GAAP capital levels decreased due to stock repurchases and a $17.7 million increase in unrealized losses on available for sale securities. As of September 30, 2026, the capital effect from unrealized losses on available for sale securities and swaps totaled $62.3 million.

Earnings

Net Interest Income

For the nine months ended September 30, 2026, net interest income totaled $52.4 million compared to $50.4 million in the same period in 2025, which represented an improvement of $1.9 million, or 3.8%. Improving loan balances helped to increase loan income by $2.5 million. Interest income from available for sale and held to maturity securities improved by $431,000, while income from cash decreased $582,000. Interest income growth was partially offset by an increase in interest expense of $380,000.

For the quarter ended September 30, 2026, net interest income increased $879,000 from the quarter ended June 30, 2026. The increase from the prior quarter was due to additional interest income from loans. These increases were partially offset by a decrease in income from cash on hand. Deposit and borrowing costs were flat quarter over quarter.

The net interest margin was 3.15% for the first nine months of 2026, compared to 3.20% during the first nine months of 2025. For the quarter ended September 30, 2026 the net interest margin was 3.25% as compared to 3.15% in the third quarter of 2025.

Non-Interest Income

Non-interest income totaled $16.2 million in the first nine months of 2026 as compared to $16.6 million in the first nine months of 2025. As compared to the first three quarters of 2025, net income from the Bank's subsidiary Mitchell, Reed and Schmitten decreased $84,000, earnings on Bank Owned Life Insurance decreased $254,000, and fees generated from Cashmere Valley Wealth Management decreased $536,000.

Non-Interest Expense

Non-interest expense totaled $40.7 million in the first nine months of 2026, as compared to $38.0 million in the first nine months of 2025. Salaries and benefits were the primary drivers of the change. Salaries and benefits increased $1.3 million, or 5.7%. CEO transition costs for recruitment and retention totaled $545,000 in the third quarter. Many of these costs will continue through year end before subsiding. State of Washington B&O taxes increased by $299,000 as compared to first nine months of 2025.

Construction has started in earnest on the new branch facility in East Wenatchee along Grant Rd. This location will be a full-service branch and is expected to open in the first half of 2027.

The Bank's efficiency ratio was 59.3% in the first nine months of 2026 as compared to 56.8% in the first nine months of 2025.

Provision expense for credit losses increased to $3.0 million from $2.1 million year to date. Provision expenses increased in the first quarter as charge-offs were larger than anticipated. Charge-off levels have decreased somewhat since the first quarter; however, loan growth has necessitated an increased provision. Third quarter provision expense totaled $873,000.

Income tax expense increased from $4.6 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2025 to $4.7 million as of September 30, 2026.
