Key Terms

kpis technical
Key performance indicators (KPIs) are specific, measurable metrics a company uses to track how well it is reaching important goals, like sales growth, profit margins, customer retention, or production speed. They matter to investors because KPIs act like a company’s dashboard gauges—showing whether management’s strategy is working, signaling trends or problems early, and helping predict future earnings and risks that affect the value of an investment.
grid hardening technical
Grid hardening is the process of strengthening the electrical power system to reduce outages and speed recovery from storms, equipment failures, cyberattacks, or other disruptions. It includes physical upgrades (like stronger poles or underground lines), backup power and batteries, and improved control systems—think of it as fortifying a house against floods, wind, and break-ins. For investors, grid hardening can lower the risk of costly outages, stabilize utility revenues, and create demand for infrastructure, storage, and engineering services.
renewable natural gas technical
Renewable natural gas is methane captured from organic waste—like landfills, farms, or wastewater—and cleaned to the same quality as conventional pipeline gas so it can be used for heating, electricity, or vehicle fuel. Investors care because it turns waste into a revenue-generating commodity, can qualify for carbon credits or government incentives, and can reduce a company's emissions profile, affecting long-term costs, regulatory risk, and market demand much like converting trash into sellable fuel.
sasb regulatory
SASB stands for the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, an organization that created industry-specific guidelines for companies to report environmental, social and governance factors that are likely to affect their financial performance. Think of it as a standardized checklist that helps investors compare how well different companies manage risks like pollution, labor practices or product safety — similar to using a common recipe so you can fairly judge different cooks. Clear, consistent SASB disclosures make it easier for investors to spot hidden risks and long-term value drivers.
