Quest Diagnostics (DGX) reported results of a large JAMA Network Open study showing that U.S. patients with antibodies to Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacterium that causes Lyme disease, are more than four times as likely to have antibodies to other tick-borne pathogens as those without Lyme antibodies.
The analysis covered de-identified results from 193,260 individuals tested between January 2021 and December 2025, and found that 29.5% of Lyme-seropositive patients were co-seropositive for at least one additional tick-borne pathogen, versus 5.5% among Lyme-seronegative patients. Overall seropositivity rates in the cohort were 5.0% for B. burgdorferi, 3.4% for Babesia microti, 3.1% for Anaplasma phagocytophilum, and 1.0% for Ehrlichia species. Co-seropositivity was highest in the Northeast, where 31.1% of Lyme-seropositive patients had antibodies to at least one other pathogen, and Babesia antibodies reached 18.5%. The study used national real‑world serology data and the company highlights that results may reflect past exposure rather than active infection.
Quest Diagnostics (DGX) released results of a national survey of 1,024 registered voters showing broad concern that scheduled Medicare lab payment cuts could reduce patient access to diagnostic testing starting January 1, 2027.
The survey found 96% of voters view diagnostic lab tests as important to their or their family's care, 75% call them “very important,” and 83% relied on a lab test in the past two years to guide a medical decision. Under the Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA), data from under 1% of labs helped set Clinical Lab Fee Schedule (CLFS) rates, cutting nearly $4 billion from 2018–2020, with further CLFS cuts of up to 15% annually scheduled for 2027–2029 without new legislation.
Among respondents, 88% would have concerns if Medicare lab rates were set too low, 93% are likely to support candidates who protect access, and around three-quarters across party lines say Congress should act now. Quest and the American Clinical Laboratory Association are urging passage of the bipartisan RESULTS Act, backed by about 130 congressional sponsors and more than 70 medical and patient groups, to stabilize Medicare lab payment rates.
Quest Diagnostics (DGX) will enable Apple Health app users in the United States to purchase and receive results for a Quest laboratory test panel directly in the app later this year.
