5 terms
power usage effectiveness (pue) technical
"designed to achieve a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.20"
Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) is a simple ratio that compares the total energy consumed by a data center (including cooling, lighting and other facility systems) to the energy used solely by the servers and networking equipment. For investors, a lower PUE means less energy is wasted — like a car that gets more miles per gallon — which usually translates into lower operating costs, smaller sustainability risks and a clearer picture of infrastructure efficiency.
liquid-cooling technical
"liquid-cooling capabilities that accommodate power-intensive GPU infrastructure"
Liquid-cooling is a method of removing heat from electronic equipment, batteries or machinery by circulating a liquid (like water or a special coolant) that absorbs heat and carries it away, similar to how a car radiator keeps an engine from overheating. For investors, it matters because more effective cooling can improve performance, energy efficiency, reliability and lifetime of high‑value assets such as data centers, electric vehicles and industrial systems, which affects operating costs, maintenance needs and resale value.
solar photovoltaic systems technical
"incorporates rooftop and facade solar photovoltaic systems"
Solar photovoltaic systems are engineered setups that convert sunlight directly into electricity using semiconductor panels (solar modules). A typical system includes solar panels that produce direct current (DC), inverters that convert DC to alternating current (AC) for use on electrical grids or by buildings, mounting structures, electrical connections and often monitoring equipment and batteries for storage; systems can be roof-mounted, ground-mounted, or utility-scale. Their output varies with sun exposure and weather, so they produce intermittent generation and usually require inverters or storage to match grid power requirements.
cognitive digital twins technical
"including liquid cooling, cognitive digital twins and battery energy storage systems"
A cognitive digital twin is a computer model that simulates a specific person’s or a group’s cognitive processes—such as perception, memory, decision-making, and attention—by combining data (from tests, sensors, interactions, or records) with machine‑learning or computational cognitive models. It is used to predict or reproduce how that mind-like system will respond in particular situations (for example to information, tasks, or treatments) so organizations can run simulations, personalize interfaces or evaluate interventions; the model is an approximation based on available data and algorithms, not a literal duplicate of a person's consciousness, and is subject to limits in accuracy, bias, and privacy/regulatory constraints.
battery energy storage systems technical
"cognitive digital twins and battery energy storage systems"
Large, grid-connected rechargeable battery systems that store electricity for later use, like a giant household battery for cities or power plants. They matter to investors because they help balance supply and demand, enable more renewable energy, reduce outage risk, and create revenue through services such as selling stored power at peak times or participating in grid stability programs, while requiring upfront capital and having performance limits tied to lifespan and degradation.

Latest data center combines liquid cooling, renewable energy and global connectivity to support next-generation computing demands

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Nov. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the world's digital infrastructure company®, today announced the opening of SG6, its sixth International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center in Singapore. Designed to support AI, high-performance computing and data-intensive workloads, SG6 expands Equinix's global footprint of more than 280 data centers and provides customers with the infrastructure needed to connect, innovate and scale in an increasingly AI-driven economy.

As businesses worldwide accelerate investments in AI, cloud and digital services, demand is growing for highly connected infrastructure that can support next-generation applications while advancing sustainability objectives. Located in one of Asia-Pacific's most strategically connected markets, SG6 combines private interconnection, global ecosystems and advanced infrastructure to help organizations deploy distributed digital workloads across regions.

"Singapore sits at the intersection of global commerce, digital technology and sustainable development," said Adaire Fox-Martin, Chief Executive Officer and President, Equinix. "Equinix has been investing in Singapore for nearly 25 years, and our new facility will further expand our presence as the neutral exchange where enterprises connect to the clouds, networks and partners they need to innovate and grow. Singapore is one of our most important markets globally, and our continued investment here is a testament to the central role it plays in the digital economy."

SG6 is among the first data centers developed under Singapore's Data Centre Call for Application framework and is designed to support high-density AI deployments through advanced cooling technologies, including proprietary cooling systems and liquid-cooling capabilities that accommodate power-intensive GPU infrastructure.

The opening of SG6 further advances Equinix's Future First sustainability strategy and aligns with the company's science-based commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2040 and 100% renewable energy coverage globally by 2030 across its retail IBXs data centers. Equinix's Singapore data centers have maintained 100% renewable energy coverage since 2020. SG6 is designed to achieve a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.20 and is targeting Green Mark Platinum certification. The facility also incorporates rooftop and facade solar photovoltaic systems, rainwater harvesting capabilities and lower-embodied-carbon construction materials to support more efficient operations and responsible growth.

"Asia-Pacific is at the forefront of digital transformation, with AI adoption, cloud expansion and data-intensive workloads driving unprecedented demand for high-performance digital infrastructure," said Cyrus Adaggra, President, Asia-Pacific, Equinix. "Singapore remains a strategic gateway for businesses serving the region, connecting key markets, talent and innovation ecosystems. SG6 strengthens our ability to support customers as they scale across Asia-Pacific, providing the resilient, interconnected and sustainable infrastructure they need to accelerate innovation and capture new growth opportunities."

With an initial investment of approximately $290 million, SG6 provides 8 MW of capacity in its first phase, delivering approximately 1,550 cabinets. Upon full build-out, the facility will offer up to 20 MW of IT capacity.
