Firestone (OTC:FSVEF) signed a 1-year Memorandum of Understanding with Aurania Resources and RSA to evaluate tailings at the former Balangero asbestos mine (25 km NNW of Turin) for two purposes: 1) test extraction of nickel, cobalt, chromium, iron and copper by Aurania and 2) test ex-situ carbon mineralization by Firestone to neutralize asbestos. RSA estimates ~60 million m3 of serpentinite tailings in a ~250 m pile. Dr. Chiara Boschi will lead laboratory carbonation work; theoretical full conversion could bind ~70–73 million tonnes CO2, but actual capacity depends on mineralogy and lab results. If favourable, parties may negotiate a commercial agreement after the 1-year study.
