Hershey Reports Third-Quarter 2026 Financial Results
Higher margins and earnings accompanied lower organic volume/mix and weaker profitability in salty snacks and International.
Sentiment and the balance of points
Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.
Rhea-AI Summary
Hershey (NYSE: HSY) reported third-quarter 2026 net sales of $3,275.5 million and raised its full-year earnings growth outlook. Sales increased 3.0% year over year, while organic sales excluding currency effects rose 0.8%. Net income was $580.8 million, and diluted earnings per share rose 111.8% to $2.88. Adjusted diluted earnings rose 103.1% to $2.64.
Reported gross margin increased to 46.1% from 32.6%, supported by pricing, derivative gains, savings and tariff refunds. Organic volume/mix fell 10%. North America Salty Snacks sales increased 22.3%, largely reflecting LesserEvil, but segment income fell 17.9%. International sales declined 7.5%, with a $30.0 million segment loss. Hershey now expects full-year adjusted earnings growth of 36% to 38.5%, versus 32.5% to 35% previously, while organic sales growth guidance moved to approximately 3% from 3% to 3.5%.
How this balance works
Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.
It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.
Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

|
(3) |
Calculated as non-GAAP provision for income taxes as a percentage of non-GAAP income before taxes (calculated as non-GAAP operating profit minus non-GAAP interest expense, net plus or minus non-GAAP other (income) expense, net). |
Appendix I
Details of the charges included in GAAP results, as summarized in the press release (above), are as follows:
Derivative mark-to-market (gains) losses: The mark-to-market (gains) losses on commodity derivatives are recorded as unallocated and excluded from adjusted results until such time as the related inventory is sold, at which time the corresponding (gains) losses are reclassified from unallocated to segment income. Since we often purchase commodity contracts to price inventory requirements in future years, we make this adjustment to facilitate the year-over-year comparison of cost of sales on a basis that matches the derivative gains and losses with the underlying economic exposure being hedged for the period.
Business realignment activities: We periodically undertake restructuring and cost reduction activities as part of ongoing efforts to enhance long-term profitability. During the first quarter of 2024, we commenced the Advancing Agility & Automation Initiative to improve supply chain and manufacturing-related spend, optimize selling, general and administrative expenses, leverage new technology and business models to further simplify and automate processes, and generate long-term savings. During the three- and nine-months ended 2026 and 2025, business realignment charges related primarily to severance and employee benefit costs, as well as other third-party costs related to this program.
Acquisition and integration-related activities: During the three- and nine-months ended 2026, we incurred costs related to the integration of the acquisition of LesserEvil, LLC into our North America Salty Snacks segment, as well as costs related to the integration of the Sour Strips brand from Actual Candy, LLC into our North America Confectionery segment, including contingent consideration remeasurement adjustments. During the three- and nine-months ended 2025, we incurred costs related to the acquisition of the Sour Strips brand from Actual Candy, LLC into our North America Confectionery segment.
Tax effect of all adjustments: This line item reflects the aggregate tax effect of all pre-tax adjustments reflected in the preceding line items of the applicable table. The tax effect for each adjustment is determined by calculating the tax impact of the adjustment on the Company's effective tax rate for the period presented, unless the nature of the item and/or the tax jurisdiction in which the item has been recorded requires application of a specific tax rate or tax treatment, in which case the tax effect of such item is estimated by applying such specific tax rate or tax treatment.

FAQ
AI-generated questions and answers. How Rhea-AI works. Not financial advice.
What were Hershey's third-quarter 2026 sales and earnings?
Hershey reported sales of $3,275.5 million, up 3.0% year over year, and diluted earnings per share of $2.88, up 111.8%. Net income was $580.8 million. Adjusted diluted earnings per share increased 103.1% to $2.64 for the quarter ended September 27, 2026.
What is Hershey's updated 2026 earnings outlook?
Hershey expects reported diluted EPS of $8.00–$8.26 and adjusted diluted EPS of $8.58–$8.74 for 2026. Those ranges represent growth of 84%–90% and 36%–38.5%, respectively.
How do tariff refunds affect Hershey's 2026 guidance?
Hershey's adjusted EPS growth guidance includes approximately $0.22 from tariff refunds received in the third quarter and $0.03 in the second quarter of 2026. The full-year outlook excludes potential future tariff refunds.
What assumptions underpin Hershey's 2026 sales and tax outlook?
Hershey's full-year sales growth outlook reflects an approximately 200-basis-point benefit from the 2025 LesserEvil acquisition and an anticipated slight benefit from currency exchange rates. The company expects reported and adjusted effective tax rates of approximately 25%.
Does Hershey's projected adjusted 2026 EPS include future commodity derivative gains or losses?
Projected adjusted 2026 diluted EPS excludes mark-to-market gains and losses on commodity derivative contracts held in corporate unallocated expense until the related inventory is sold. Hershey cannot forecast the effect of market changes on those contracts.
