Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

Lam Research (Nasdaq: LRCX) announced that its board approved a $25 billion share repurchase authorization alongside a quarterly dividend.

The authorization permits purchases of up to $25 billion of common stock and supplements remaining balances from the prior authorization. The program has no termination date and does not obligate Lam to purchase shares. The $0.33-per-share dividend is payable January 6, 2027, to holders of record December 2, 2026. Future dividends remain subject to board review and approval.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

derivative contracts financial
"may include the use of derivative contracts and structured share repurchase agreements"
Derivative contracts are agreements whose value depends on the price or outcome of something else—an underlying asset or event like a stock, bond, commodity, interest rate, or market index. They matter to investors because they can be used to protect against losses (like insurance), to place targeted bets, or to amplify gains and losses; therefore derivatives can change a portfolio’s risk and potential return without buying the underlying asset directly.
holders of record financial
"to holders of record on December 2, 2026"
Names listed on a company’s official register at a specific cut-off date who are legally entitled to receive dividends, vote on corporate matters, or participate in other shareholder actions. Think of it like a guest list for an event: only those on the list at the snapshot time get the invitation or benefits, so investors watch the record date to know whether they will receive payouts or voting rights for a given corporate action.
