Key Terms
index optionstechnical
Index options are contracts that give investors the choice to buy or sell a group of stocks, called an index, at a set price before a certain date. They are useful for managing risk or making bets on the overall market’s direction, much like placing a bet on whether the entire sports team will win or lose.
futurestechnical
A futures contract is a standardized agreement to buy or sell an asset (like a commodity, currency, or stock index) at a fixed price on a specific future date. Think of it like locking in the price of a house today for a move-in years from now: it lets buyers and sellers protect themselves against price swings or bet on which way prices will move. For investors, futures matter because they provide a cheap way to manage risk, amplify returns through leverage, and signal market expectations that can move cash prices.
Cboe Volatility Indextechnical
The Cboe Volatility Index is a market gauge that estimates how much prices of the U.S. stock market are expected to swing over the next month by looking at the cost of option-based “insurance.” Investors watch it because higher readings signal greater expected turbulence and risk, which can influence portfolio hedging, trading strategies, and decisions to shift into safer assets—like checking a weather forecast before planning an outdoor event.
S&P 500 Indextechnical
The S&P 500 Index is a broad measure of the U.S. stock market made up of 500 large companies chosen to represent many industries; think of it as a market-wide scoreboard that shows how big, established American companies are performing. Investors use it as a benchmark to judge fund and portfolio performance, to build low-cost index funds, and to gauge overall market and economic trends much like checking a thermometer for the market’s temperature.
swap execution facilityregulatory
A Swap Execution Facility is a special online platform where people and companies can buy and sell swap agreements, which are contracts to exchange financial benefits or risks. It helps ensure these trades happen fairly and transparently, making financial markets safer and more organized—kind of like an auction site for financial contracts.
non-deliverable forwardstechnical
Non-Deliverable Forwards are agreements to buy or sell a currency at a set price in the future, but without the actual exchange of the currency itself. Instead, the difference in value is paid in cash. They are often used by companies or investors to manage currency risk when physical delivery isn’t practical or allowed.

The Marc Hotel takes over the former west wing of Hilton Milwaukee. Its name is a nod to Marcus Corporation’s history. In 1972, the former Schroeder Hotel was purchased by the company and renamed the Marc Plaza Hotel. Though it received a new name in 1995 under the Hilton flag, the Marc legacy returns 30 years later as the west wing reopens as The Marc Hotel.
To celebrate the hotel’s grand opening, until the end of February guests can enjoy 20% off a stay by booking this special opening offer here. To learn more about The Marc Hotel, please visit www.marchotelmilwaukee.com.
