4 terms
swap agreements financial
"including swap agreements and options contracts"
A swap agreement is a contract where two parties agree to exchange future cash flows or obligations—such as interest payments, currency amounts, or credit exposure—according to set terms. Investors care because swaps let companies and funds change or hedge financial risks (for example, swapping a variable-rate payment for a fixed one) without selling assets, which can alter future earnings, balance-sheet liabilities and hidden risk exposure much like trading one set of loan payments for another.
options contracts financial
"including swap agreements and options contracts"
A contract that gives an investor the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell a specific amount of a stock or other asset at a set price within a set time. It matters because options let investors protect against losses, lock in prices, or bet on price moves with less upfront cash than buying the asset outright—like buying a short-term reservation or insurance policy on a future purchase or sale.
special purpose vehicles financial
"invest, directly or indirectly, in special purpose vehicles"
Special purpose vehicles are separate companies created to isolate financial risk or manage specific assets and projects. They act like dedicated containers that hold particular investments or loans, helping organizations keep certain activities separate from their main operations. For investors, understanding these entities is important because they can influence how risks and returns are structured within a larger financial system.
non-diversified financial
"an actively managed, non-diversified ETF"
Non-diversified describes an investment vehicle or portfolio that concentrates its holdings in a relatively small number of stocks, bonds or similar assets rather than spreading money across many different holdings. It matters to investors because concentration can amplify both gains and losses — like carrying most of your groceries in a few bags instead of many — so these investments can be riskier and more volatile but may offer higher reward if the chosen assets perform well.
