Company provides high-speed 1 Gig internet to Amarillo consumers and businesses, completes more than five miles of network infrastructure improvements and invests $11,000 in local community organizations

AMARILLO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Optimum is investing in the future of Amarillo with nearly $2 million in network resiliency improvements through 2027, strengthening the infrastructure behind the high-speed internet service the company provides to residential customers and businesses throughout the community.

Optimum delivers high-speed internet service with speeds up to 1 Gbps to Amarillo customers, helping connect families, businesses and organizations to the people, services and opportunities they rely on every day. The company’s latest investments are focused on strengthening that network, improving reliability, and preparing the community for future disruptions.

Building a More Resilient Network

As part of its ongoing investment in Amarillo, Optimum has completed approximately 27,400 feet – more than five miles – of network infrastructure improvements throughout the market. The work includes upgrades to aerial and underground coaxial cable, as well as fiber infrastructure that supports the backbone of the network.

Optimum is investing approximately $600,000 in 2026 and 2027 through its Battery Backup Program, strengthening the network’s ability to remain operational during power disruptions and other events that can affect critical infrastructure. In fact, over 75% of the outages that occurred on Optimum’s internet network in the last year were due to external factors outside of the company’s control, including weather and third-party cuts to the network.

The investment builds on Optimum’s broader focus on network resiliency in Amarillo and is particularly meaningful as the region responds to the realities of wildfire risk and severe weather.

“Amarillo is a community that knows how important reliable, high-speed connectivity is – especially when unexpected events impact the community,” said Amanda Seabaugh, Vice President, General Manager, Optimum TexPac. “We’re investing in the infrastructure behind our network to make it stronger, more resilient and better prepared for the future. And we’re investing in Amarillo beyond the network, supporting organizations that are helping local families and giving young people opportunities to succeed.”

Investing in the Amarillo Community

Optimum is also putting its commitment to Amarillo into action through $11,000 in donations to two local organizations.

Optimum is providing $6,000 to High Plains Food Bank toward the purchase of a Skyjack lift. This equipment will help the food bank complete more facility maintenance and repairs in-house, reduce its reliance on outside contractors, and improve efficiency in essential warehouse operations, including inventory checks.

"We are incredibly grateful to Optimum for this generous investment in High Plains Food Bank and the neighbors we serve," said Zack Wilson, Executive Director of High Plains Food Bank. "The Skyjack lift will help our team complete essential maintenance and warehouse tasks more safely and efficiently, while reducing the need for outside services. Investments like this strengthen the behind-the-scenes operations that make our work possible and help us fulfill our mission of alleviating hunger across the 29 counties we serve in the Texas Panhandle."

Optimum is also donating $5,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo to support STEM resources and give local youth opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering and math.

“We’re grateful to Optimum for investing in the future of Amarillo’s youth,” said Donna Soria, CEO, Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo. “Support in addressing the food insecurity experienced by so many of our members allows us to provide more than just a hot meal. It provides the comfort and security of knowing that their basic needs are being met and that they have a community invested in their well-being. Partnerships like this with Optimum do more than address an immediate need—they help remove barriers to opportunity, empower our youth to reach their full potential, and ensure that circumstances beyond their control do not define their future. When we nourish our children today, we strengthen the possibilities for their tomorrow.”

Together, these investments reflect Optimum’s commitment to providing high-speed connectivity, strengthening network resiliency and making a positive impact in the Amarillo community.

coaxial cable technical
A coaxial cable is an electrical cable for carrying radio-frequency or broadband signals that has a central conductor surrounded by an insulating layer, a concentric metallic shield, and an outer jacket. The concentric construction confines the electromagnetic field to the space between the conductor and shield, reducing external interference and allowing predictable signal transmission characterized by a fixed characteristic impedance; signal loss increases with frequency and cable length and connectors must match the cable's impedance to avoid reflections. Coaxial cables are used for cable TV, internet, radio, and other data or RF links where a flexible, shielded transmission line is required.
