Insights

Prologis report reveals energy reliability, AI adoption, and regionalization as critical supply chain trends that position the company strategically.

Prologis, the global leader in logistics real estate, has released its 2026 Supply Chain Outlook report, highlighting three transformative trends reshaping global supply chains. The survey of 1,800+ senior executives across multiple continents reveals significant shifts that will likely strengthen Prologis' market position.

The first major finding shows energy reliability emerging as the dominant concern in supply chain planning. With 89% of companies experiencing energy disruptions and 90% willing to pay premiums for reliable energy infrastructure, this creates a strong value proposition for Prologis properties with advanced energy systems. This prioritization of energy reliability over labor costs (40% vs. 36%) as the top location driver represents a fundamental shift in site selection criteria.

The report's revelation about AI adoption reaching 70% among supply chain companies demonstrates the accelerating technological transformation. As AI increasingly drives supply chain decisions, Prologis facilities designed to accommodate these technologies will command premium values.

The third trend of supply chain regionalization directly benefits Prologis' business model. With 77% of companies already implementing regional networks around consumption centers, demand for strategically located logistics facilities near major metropolitan areas will intensify. Prologis' extensive portfolio in key consumption markets positions it to capitalize on this shift.

This research demonstrates Prologis' thought leadership in the logistics industry while highlighting market trends that validate its long-term strategy of developing high-quality, well-located logistics properties with advanced infrastructure capabilities. The timing of this report ahead of their GROUNDBREAKERS forum reinforces Prologis' position as an industry leader anticipating and responding to evolving market dynamics.

Prologis/Harris Poll report highlights energy, AI and regionalization as defining trends for 2026

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 29, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2026 Prologis Supply Chain Outlookreport reveals a sharp shift in how companies are rethinking supply chains for the next decade. Conducted with The Harris Poll, this is an exclusive annual survey of more than 1,800 senior executives across the U.S., Europe, Asia and Mexico. The report is released ahead of the company's annual thought leadership forum,GROUNDBREAKERSTM, in Los Angeles.

"This report confirms what our customers are navigating every day," said Hamid R. Moghadam, co-founder and CEO of Prologis. "Supply chains are going through the biggest reset in a generation, and it comes down to three things: energy reliability, AI and location. The new priority is resilience — building networks that can adapt and endure."

Key findings highlight three disruptive forces reshaping global supply chains:

  • Energy reliability is emerging as the next supply chain crisis. Almost nine in 10 companies experienced energy disruption in the past year, from price volatility to weather-driven outages. Executives are consequently worried about power reliability, with seven in 10 saying they fear outages more than any other disruption. Yet fewer than a third of organizations have advanced backup systems in place. Looking ahead, 90% say they would pay a premium for sites with reliable energy infrastructure.
  • AI is already running supply chains. 70% of companies now report advanced or transformational AI adoption, with quality control and risk identification leading the way. By 2030, leaders expect AI to drive the majority of supply chain decisions across all major functions.
  • Regionalization is accelerating. Distributing products across major cities and key consumption areas has long been a supply chain focus. After decades of globalization, nearly six in 10 executives forecast more localized supply chains by 2030. More than three-quarters have already implemented or are actively building regional networks, especially around consumption centers. Energy reliability (40%) now outranks labor costs (36%) as the top driver of where companies choose to locate operations.

Susan Uthayakumar, chief energy and sustainability officer at Prologis, added: "Energy is the new fault line in global supply chains. A majority of companies faced energy disruptions last year, and most expect their power needs to surge in the years ahead. The companies that solve for energy resilience will be the ones that stay ahead."
