Rigel Reports Third Quarter 2026 Financial Results
Cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments fell to $99.3 million from $155.0 million at the end of 2025.
Sentiment and the balance of points
Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.
Rhea-AI Summary
Rigel Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: RIGL) reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $80.9 million, with higher product sales but lower net income year over year. Net product sales rose 13% to $72.3 million, including $6.6 million from VEPPANU following its August 13 U.S. launch. Net income fell to $13.2 million, or $0.65 diluted per share, from $27.9 million, or $1.46 per share. Costs and expenses increased to $63.8 million from $41.0 million.
Rigel now expects 2026 revenue, excluding VEPPANU, of approximately $290–$295 million, versus approximately $285–$295 million previously. Product-sales guidance narrowed to approximately $255–$260 million, while collaboration revenue guidance rose to approximately $35 million. Rigel still expects positive full-year net income and plans to complete enrollment and select a Phase 2 dose for R289 in lower-risk myelodysplastic syndrome by year-end.
How this balance works
Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.
It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.
Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

Brazil in October.
Clinical Development
- Rigel continues to advance its Phase 1b clinical study of R2891, a potent and selective dual inhibitor of interleukin receptor-associated kinases 1 and 4 (IRAK1/4), in patients with relapsed or refractory (R/R) lower-risk myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and the company expects to complete enrollment and select the recommended Phase 2 dose for future development by the end of 2026.

- The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress 2026 featured data from the ARROW and TAPISTRY clinical trials of pralsetinib in patients with rearranged during transfection (RET) fusion-positive solid tumors in a rapid oral session. In addition, two poster presentations and an ePoster included clinical and health-related quality of life (HR-QoL) data from the TAPISTRY clinical trial in patients with RET fusion-positive thyroid cancer and ARROW trial in patients with RET fusion-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
- At the 2026 American Thyroid Association (ATA) Annual Meeting, HR-QOL among patients with medullary thyroid cancer and RET fusion-positive thyroid cancer from the ARROW clinical trial of pralsetinib was presented in an oral session, demonstrating that treatment with pralsetinib resulted in clinically meaningful improvements in several measures of HR-QoL for patients, including diarrhea, a common symptom of patients with medullary thyroid cancer and RET fusion-positive thyroid cancer. In addition, data from the ARROW and TAPISTRY clinical trials of pralsetinib in patients with RET fusion-positive thyroid cancer showed robust and durable clinical activity, with an overall response rate of
83.7% and a median progression-free survival of 30.3 months. The safety profile was consistent with previous experience and monitoring for infections is warranted.

About ITP
In patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), the immune system attacks and destroys the body's own blood platelets, which play an active role in blood clotting and healing. Common symptoms of ITP are excessive bruising and bleeding. Patients suffering with chronic ITP may live with an increased risk of severe bleeding events that can result in serious medical complications or even death. Current therapies for ITP include steroids, blood platelet production boosters (TPO-RAs), and splenectomy. However, not all patients respond to existing therapies. As a result, there remains a significant medical need for additional treatment options for patients with ITP.
About AML
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a rapidly progressing cancer of the blood and bone marrow that affects myeloid cells, which normally develop into various types of mature blood cells. AML occurs primarily in adults and accounts for about 1 percent of all adult cancers. The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be about 22,720 new cases in
Relapsed AML affects about half of all patients who, following treatment and remission, experience a return of leukemia cells in the bone marrow.3,4 Refractory AML, which affects between 10 and 40 percent of newly diagnosed patients, occurs when a patient fails to achieve remission even after intensive treatment.5 Quality of life declines for patients with each successive line of treatment for AML, and well-tolerated treatments in relapsed or refractory disease remain an unmet need.

What is Rigel's updated 2026 revenue outlook?
Rigel expects approximately $290–$295 million in 2026 revenue, excluding VEPPANU. The outlook includes approximately $255–$260 million in net product sales and approximately $35 million in collaboration revenue. Rigel continues to anticipate positive full-year net income while funding existing and new clinical development programs.
Why is Rigel's nine-month 2026 profit comparison affected by collaboration revenue?
The prior-year nine-month period included $40.0 million in non-cash revenue from releasing the remaining cost-share liability under Rigel's collaboration agreement with Eli Lilly. That period also included a $3.0 million regulatory milestone connected with TAVALISSE's approval in the Republic of Korea.
What R289 data will Rigel present at ASH in December 2026?
Rigel plans an oral presentation of updated Phase 1b R289 data in lower-risk myelodysplastic syndrome, including initial efficacy findings from the study's dose-expansion phase. The ongoing study involves patients whose disease has returned or has not responded to treatment.
What drove Rigel's higher third-quarter 2026 costs?
Higher costs primarily reflected research and development spending on R289 and vepdegestrant, product-sales costs, commercial expenses associated with the vepdegestrant launch, and personnel costs. Total third-quarter costs and expenses were $63.8 million, compared with $41.0 million a year earlier.
