Key Terms

design-build technical
A project delivery method where one firm or team is hired to both design and build a physical project under a single contract. It matters to investors because it centralizes responsibility, often speeding delivery and clarifying who bears schedule and cost risks—think of hiring a single contractor to both draw the plans and do the construction instead of coordinating separate architects and builders. That can reduce surprises but also concentrates decision power and oversight.
conventional buoy mooring system technical
An arrangement of anchors, chains or cables and a floating buoy that lets large ships tie up offshore without coming into a port. The buoy is fixed to the seabed and provides a stable connection point for tankers or service vessels to transfer cargo, fuel or equipment; for investors it signals a physical asset that affects operational capacity, maintenance costs, and revenue timing for offshore projects.
quay crane technical
A quay crane is a large, shore-based crane used at ports to lift containers and heavy cargo between ships and the dock; it typically runs on rails along the quay and reaches across a vessel to move loads. For investors, quay cranes are a key part of a port’s equipment that determines how fast ships are serviced and how much cargo a terminal can handle, influencing throughput, operating costs and revenue potential—think of them as the loading dock’s main workhorses.
breakwater technical
A breakwater is a man-made barrier built offshore or along a shoreline to absorb and deflect wave energy, protecting harbors, beaches, and coastal infrastructure like docks and storage areas. For investors, breakwaters matter because they preserve the value and usability of waterfront assets, influence insurance and maintenance costs, and create business for construction and engineering firms — like a heavy-duty umbrella that shields coastal property from damaging storms and erosion.
