Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

E.W. Scripps (SSP) raised its full-year 2026 Local Media political advertising revenue outlook to about $275 million.

The outlook is about 40% above 2022 midterm election revenue and replaces August guidance of $225-$250 million. Scripps completed 431 workforce reductions Tuesday, bringing employees impacted in 2026 to about 850, nearly 20% of its beginning-of-year employee count.

The transformation plan targets $125-$150 million of growth in enterprise EBITDA, a measure of earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, by 2028. Scripps expects about $100 million in annual run-rate savings to be implemented by year end, with transformation effects becoming most evident beginning in fourth-quarter results. It plans to use its $83 million in cash at third-quarter end and fourth-quarter political advertising proceeds to repay at least $150 million of debt in the fourth quarter.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

"generate $125-$150 million of enterprise EBITDA growth by 2028"
EBITDA stands for earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization. It measures a company's profitability by focusing on the money it makes from its core operations, ignoring expenses like taxes and accounting adjustments. Investors use EBITDA to compare how well different companies are performing financially, as it provides a clearer picture of operational success without the influence of financial structure or accounting choices.

run-rate savings financial
"implemented about $100 million in annual run-rate savings by year end"
Run-rate savings are the annualized amount of cost reduction a company expects to sustain going forward after a one-time change, measured by taking recent monthly or quarterly savings and projecting them over a year. Investors care because this shows how permanent and scalable expense cuts or efficiency gains will improve future profit trends, like checking the steady speed a car will hold after you stop braking.
