Uber (NYSE: UBER) announced that Uber Japan has signed an operational partnership with taxi operator Hinomaru Kotsu to manage day-to-day fleet operations for an autonomous vehicle robotaxi pilot in Tokyo, targeted to launch in late 2026.
Hinomaru Kotsu will handle depot operations, cleaning, maintenance, inspections, charging, and vehicle uptime, while Uber will provide its ridehailing app, matching platform, and operational tools. The pilot will use Nissan LEAF vehicles equipped with Wayve’s AI Driver technology, building on a March 12, 2026 MOU among Uber, Wayve, and Nissan. The service is structured to comply with Japanese laws requiring authorized taxi companies to operate passenger transport, with Hinomaru Kotsu serving as the licensed operator. In the initial phase, experienced Hinomaru Kotsu drivers will act as on-board safety operators, with any move to fully driverless operations dependent on future regulatory approval.
Uber (NYSE: UBER) reported Q2 2026 Gross Bookings of $58.0 billion, up 24% year-over-year (22% constant currency), on 3.9 billion trips (+18%) and 208 million MAPCs (+16%). Revenue was $14.2 billion, up 12% (11% constant currency), with business model changes reducing reported revenue growth by 8 percentage points.
GAAP income from operations rose 30% to $1.9 billion, and GAAP net income attributable to Uber was $2.4 billion, including a $1.6 billion pre-tax net benefit from equity investment revaluations, driving GAAP diluted EPS to $1.17 (+85%). For Q3 2026, Uber guides Gross Bookings to $58.25–$60.25 billion (18–22% constant-currency growth), Non-GAAP EPS of $0.84–$0.88, and Adjusted EBITDA of $2.86–$2.96 billion.
Uber (NYSE: UBER) and UK-based autonomous driving company Wayve moved closer to launching autonomous rides in London after Transport for London (TfL) granted Private Hire Vehicle licences to a number of Wayve’s autonomous all-electric Ford Mustang Mach‑E cars.
The vehicles, equipped with the Wayve AI Driver, cameras and radar, were inspected to meet TfL’s policy and safety standards and now satisfy the “triple-lock” licensing requirement for operator, driver and vehicle. Trips will run under the Government’s AV Trialling Code of Practice and Uber’s TfL Private Hire Operator licence, with a trained, TfL-licensed private hire driver on board. According to Uber, more than 100,000 Londoners have joined an Interest List, and selected riders will trial autonomous Wayve rides later this summer ahead of a full public launch.
