real estate investment trust financial
"elected to be taxed as a real estate investment trust"
A real estate investment trust (REIT) is a company that owns and manages income-producing properties—like apartment buildings, shopping centers, offices, or warehouses—and is required to pass most of its rental income to shareholders as dividends. Think of it as a shared property owner: instead of buying a whole building, investors buy a slice of a portfolio that pays regular income and can offer exposure to property values and rental markets without direct management. REITs matter to investors for predictable income, diversification, and liquidity compared with owning physical real estate.
ordinary REIT taxable income financial
"substantially all of its ordinary REIT taxable income"
earnings and profits financial
"current tax earnings and profits for the year"
Earnings and profits describe the money a business keeps after covering its costs and expenses; 'earnings' usually means the final bottom-line amount while 'profits' can refer to that or to earlier stages after some costs are deducted. Investors watch these figures as a measure of a company's ability to grow, pay dividends and justify its stock price—think of it like a household’s leftover income after all bills, savings and necessary spending are paid.
externally managed financial
"ARMOUR is externally managed and advised"
A company described as externally managed hires an outside firm or individual to handle day-to-day operations, investment decisions, or strategic management instead of using in-house executives and staff. This matters to investors because the outside manager’s expertise, fee arrangement, and contractual responsibilities determine who runs the business, how costs are paid, and where potential conflicts of interest or control issues may arise—like hiring a contractor to run a business rather than using employees.
