Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

deferred tax asset financial
"deferred tax asset associated with our pre-tax losses"
A deferred tax asset is an accounting recognition that a company expects to pay less tax in the future because of past losses or timing differences between accounting and tax rules; think of it as an IOU from the tax system that can reduce future tax bills. It matters to investors because it can boost future cash flow and reported profits if the company generates enough taxable income to use it, but its value depends on realistic prospects for future earnings.
assets held for sale financial
"one-time write-down on our ‘assets held for sale,’"
Assets held for sale are things a company has decided to sell and has reclassified on its balance sheet to show they are being marketed rather than used in daily operations — like putting a house on the market instead of living in it. This matters to investors because these items are measured based on expected sale proceeds (which can reveal likely gains or losses), stop being treated as regular operating assets, and signal upcoming cash inflows or a change in strategy that can affect the company’s financial health and stock value.
fully diluted basis financial
"compared to $(0.15) on a fully diluted basis"
A fully diluted basis counts every share that could exist if all outstanding options, warrants, convertible securities and other rights were exercised or converted into common stock, showing the maximum number of shares outstanding. For investors this matters because it spreads ownership and earnings across that larger share count, like slicing a pie into every possible piece before deciding how big each investor’s slice will be, which affects per-share value and ownership percentage.
Second-quarter net revenues $4.0703 million Compared with $4.6211 million in the prior-year quarter

EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

ANNOUNCES FISCAL 2027 SECOND QUARTER AND YEAR TO DATE RESULTS

TULSA, OK, October 14, 2026—Educational Development Corporation (“EDC”, or the “Company”) (NASDAQ: EDUC), a publishing company specializing in books and educational products for children, today reports financial results for the fiscal second quarter ended August 31, 2026.

Second Quarter Summary Compared to the Prior Year Second Quarter

  ● Net revenues were $4.1 million compared to $4.6 million.

  ● Average active PaperPie Brand Partners totaled 5,100 compared to 5,800.

  ● Loss before income taxes were $(1.6) million, compared to $(1.8) million.

  ● Net loss totaled $(1.6) million, compared to $(1.3) million.

  ● Loss per share totaled $(0.19) compared to $(0.15) on a fully diluted basis.

Year-to-Date Summary Compared to the Prior Year

  ● Net revenues of $8.8 million, compared to $11.7 million.

  ● Average active PaperPie Brand Partners totaled 5,200, compared to 6,800.

  ● Loss before income taxes were $(2.9) million, compared to $(3.2) million.

  ● Net loss totaled $(3.0) million, compared to $(2.4) million.

  ● Loss per share totaled $(0.35), compared to $(0.28) on a fully diluted basis.

Per Craig White, Chief Executive Officer, “During the first two quarters we ran several product and recruiting promotions to increase our Brand Partner headcount to increase sales. I am happy to say that we were successful in both areas, which helped turn excess inventory into cash. Although our cash position decreased slightly from $1.3 million at the end of February to $1.2 million at the end of August, I am proud that we were able to generate positive cash flow even during our slowest quarter of the year. I am also pleased to see our Brand Partner numbers starting to trend up. Through the first half of fiscal 2027 our Active Brand Partners increased by over 19%, from 4,300 to 5,100. This remains our primary focus as we work diligently to further strengthen and build our Brand Partner levels, which will have a direct impact on sales growth.”

“Our loss before taxes this quarter and year to date, were better than last year on reduced revenue levels. These results were possible due to our continued focus on reducing expenses. At the beginning of the year, we implemented a cost reduction plan, which is expected to reduce our overall general and administrative expenses during the fiscal year by over $1.2 million. In addition, during the first quarter of this fiscal year, we made a $100,000 one-time write-down on our ‘assets held for sale,’ which includes our legacy pick & pack distribution system that we are marketing for sale. Even with this adjustment at the beginning of the year, our losses before taxes are less than the previous year.”

“Just like the previous quarter, our earnings per share were lower this quarter as we were not able to realize the deferred tax asset associated with our pre-tax losses. We are optimistic that as our Brand Partner levels increase along with increasing sales, we will return to profitability. Once we have affirmation of this direction, these deferred tax assets will become realizable resulting in a tax gain of approximately $0.28 per share as of August 31, 2026,” concluded Mr. White.
