A goods and services tax (GST) is a consumption tax added to the sale price of most goods and services and collected by businesses on behalf of the government. Think of it as a sales add-on at checkout that companies collect and then pass along to tax authorities; it matters to investors because it can affect product prices, company profit margins, cash flow timing, and administrative costs, all of which influence valuations and competitive positioning.
