Koppers Holdings Inc. reported sharply weaker results for the quarter and six months ended June 30, 2026, driven by large impairment and restructuring charges tied mainly to shutting down distillation and chemical manufacturing at its Stickney, Illinois facility and other network optimization actions.

Adjusted EBITDA, which excludes these items and other non‑recurring factors, was $71.0 million, down from $77.1 million.
By segment, Railroad and Utility Products and Services saw lower adjusted EBITDA on weaker pricing and mix, while Performance Chemicals delivered higher sales and adjusted EBITDA, helped by volume growth and lower net raw material costs. Carbon Materials and Chemicals experienced a steep adjusted EBITDA decline due to higher costs despite savings from prior shutdowns. Consolidated adjusted EBITDA fell 11.2% to $49.3 million, pressured mainly by weaker pricing and earnings in Carbon Materials and Chemicals.
Operating cash flow improved sharply to $46.3 million from an outflow of $22.7 million, helped by better working capital. Net debt remained high at $928.8 million, with a total net leverage ratio of 3.4 under the company’s credit facility.
After quarter-end, Koppers announced a conditional plan to discontinue distillation and chemical manufacturing at its Stickney, Illinois facility by the end of 2026. Management frames this as part of a broader multi-year transformation to shift toward higher-margin, less capital-intensive operations.
