How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

Filing Explained

At September 30, 2026, MSDL reported 1.8641 billion dollars available under credit facilities and 75 million dollars in unrestricted cash and short-term liquid investments.

Capstone JV began operations on January 2, 2026. MSDL and its partner agreed to contribute up to $200.0 million and $50.0 million, respectively, and 64.9% of total capital commitments had been called as of September 30, 2026.

The “up to” amounts are contribution ceilings; the 64.9% figure reports commitments called, not a dollar amount. As of September 30, 2026, MSDL reported $1,864.1 million of availability under credit facilities and $75.0 million in unrestricted cash and short-term liquid investments, alongside $1,958.0 million of principal debt outstanding.

non-accrual status financial
"were on non-accrual status"
A loan or credit account is placed in non-accrual status when the lender stops recording expected interest income because the borrower is not making scheduled payments or repayment is doubtful. Think of it like a landlord who stops counting unpaid rent as future income once a tenant stops paying; it signals rising credit problems and potential losses. For investors, non-accrual levels indicate loan quality and can foreshadow write-downs, lower earnings, and increased risk to a lender’s balance sheet.
net asset value financial
"Net asset value per share"
Net asset value is the total value of an investment fund's assets minus any liabilities, divided by the number of shares or units outstanding. It represents the per-share worth of the fund, similar to how the value of a house is determined by its total worth after debts are subtracted. Investors use it to gauge the true value of their holdings and to compare different investment options.
incentive fee cap financial
"subject to our incentive fee cap"
payment-in-kind income financial
"Payment-in-kind income"
Payment-in-kind income is money owed or interest on an investment that is paid not in cash but in goods, services, additional shares, or extra debt instead. For investors it matters because receiving value this way can boost reported returns while reducing actual cash on hand, affecting an investment’s liquidity, the company’s ability to meet cash needs, tax treatment, and how you value the holding — like getting store credit or product instead of a paycheck.
Total investment income $86.1 million Compared with $88.8 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.
Net investment income after taxes $40.261 million Compared with $43.730 million in the three months ended September 30, 2025.
Earnings per share ($0.32) Compared with $0.32 in the three months ended September 30, 2025.

RESULTS OF OPERATIONS

Total investment income for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 was $86.1 million, compared to $88.8 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. The modest decrease was a function of the impact of positions placed on non-accrual and lower non-recurring revenue.

Total net expenses for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 were $45.1 million, down from $49.8 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. The decrease was primarily driven by lower incentive fees earned which was subject to our incentive fee cap, partially offset by higher interest and other financing expenses.

Net investment income for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 was $40.3 million, or $0.48 per share, compared to $38.2 million, or $0.45 per share, for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.

For the quarter ended September 30, 2026, net change in unrealized depreciation was $(29.4) million and net realized losses were $(38.2) million.
