How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

adjusted operating loss financial
"Adjusted operating loss"
Adjusted operating loss is the company’s operating loss after removing one-time or unusual charges and income that management believes do not reflect ongoing business performance, such as major restructuring costs or gains from selling an asset. Investors use it like looking at a household’s monthly bills after excluding a single big repair bill — it helps show the underlying health of operations, but can be shaped by choices about what to exclude.
share-based compensation financial
"Share-based compensation"
Share-based compensation is when a company pays employees, executives or directors with its own stock or rights to buy stock instead of, or in addition to, cash. Think of it like receiving store gift cards instead of extra paycheck — it can motivate staff to boost the company’s value, but it also increases the number of shares outstanding and can shrink each existing owner’s slice of profits and voting power. Investors watch it because it affects reported earnings, share count and the alignment between management and shareholders.
remeasurement of deferred compensation plan liabilities financial
"Remeasurement of deferred compensation plan liabilities"
right-of-use lease assets financial
"Right-of-use lease assets"
An asset a lessee records when a lease gives it the right to use an underlying item of property, plant or equipment for a specified period. It is recognized at lease commencement and initially measured as the present value of required lease payments plus certain initial direct costs and prepaid amounts, less any lease incentives; the right-of-use asset is presented alongside a corresponding lease liability and is depreciated (or amortized) over the lease term subject to impairment and any transfer/ownership provisions. The concept applies to lessees’ accounting under modern lease standards (for example IFRS 16 and ASC 842) and does not describe the lessor’s asset or ownership of the underlying property.
Revenue $45.5 million $6.0 million increase, or 15%
Operating loss $25.5 million loss $2.0 million improvement, or 7%
Adjusted operating loss $20.0 million loss $0.8 million improvement, or 4%

Summary of Financial Results
For the fiscal 2027 first quarter, revenues of $45.5 million increased $6.0 million, or 15%, as compared to the prior year period. This primarily reflected higher revenues from league distributions of $3.1 million, mainly due to an increase in certain league distributions unrelated to national media rights fees. In addition, food, beverage and merchandise sales increased $2.6 million as compared to the prior year period, primarily due to higher Knicks merchandise revenues driven by ongoing demand from the team winning the 2025-26 NBA Championship.
Direct operating expenses of $8.8 million increased $0.5 million, or 7%, as compared to the prior year period. This was primarily driven by (i) higher expenses associated with merchandise sales of $1.6 million, (ii) higher team personnel compensation of $1.3 million, and (iii) higher net provisions for certain team personnel transactions of $0.7 million, mostly offset by (iv) a $3.0 million decrease in net provisions for league revenue sharing expense (net of escrow and excluding playoffs) and NBA luxury tax.
Selling, general and administrative expenses of $60.8 million increased $3.0 million, or 5%, as compared to the prior year period. This increase was primarily driven by (i) expenses related to the spin-off transaction in the current year period of $3.6 million and (ii) higher other general and administrative expenses, partially offset by (iii) lower employee compensation and related benefits of $1.2 million.
Operating loss of $25.5 million improved $2.0 million, or 7%, and adjusted operating loss of $20.0 million improved $0.8 million, or 4%, both as compared to the prior year period, primarily due to higher revenues, partially offset by higher selling, general and administrative expenses.

Non-GAAP Financial Measures
We define adjusted operating income (loss), which is a non-GAAP financial measure, as operating income (loss) excluding (i) depreciation, amortization and impairments of property and equipment, goodwill and other intangible assets, (ii) share-based compensation expense or benefit, (iii) restructuring charges or credits, (iv) gains or losses on sales or dispositions of businesses, (v) the impact of purchase accounting adjustments related to business acquisitions, and (vi) gains and losses related to the remeasurement of liabilities under the Company’s Executive Deferred Compensation Plan. Because it is based upon operating income (loss), adjusted operating income (loss) also excludes interest expense (including cash interest expense) and other non-operating income and expense items. We believe that the exclusion of share-based compensation expense or benefit allows investors to better track the performance of our business without regard to the settlement of an obligation that is not expected to be made in cash. In addition, we believe that the exclusion of gains and losses related to the remeasurement of liabilities under the Company’s Executive Deferred Compensation Plan provides investors with a clearer picture of the Company’s operating performance given that, in accordance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (“GAAP”), gains and losses related to the remeasurement of liabilities under the Company’s Executive Deferred Compensation Plan are recognized in operating income (loss) whereas gains and losses related to the remeasurement of the assets under the Company’s Executive Deferred Compensation Plan, which are equal to and therefore fully offset the gains and losses related to the remeasurement of liabilities, are recognized in miscellaneous income (expense), net, which is not reflected in operating income (loss).

We believe adjusted operating income (loss) is an appropriate measure for evaluating the operating performance of our Company. Adjusted operating income (loss) and similar measures with similar titles are common performance measures used by investors and analysts to analyze our performance. Internally, we use revenues and adjusted operating income (loss) as the most important indicators of our business performance, and evaluate management’s effectiveness with specific reference to these indicators. Adjusted operating income (loss) should be viewed as a supplement to and not a substitute for operating income (loss), net income (loss), cash flows from operating activities, and other measures of performance and/or liquidity presented in accordance with GAAP. Since adjusted operating income (loss) is not a measure of performance calculated in accordance with GAAP, this measure may not be comparable to similar measures with similar titles used by other companies. For a reconciliation of operating income (loss) to adjusted operating income (loss), please see page 5 of this earnings release.
