Rhea-AI Filing Summary

PLAYSTUDIOS, Inc. (MYPS) will recognize a non-cash, pre-tax impairment charge of $3.0 million to $3.5 million in the third quarter of 2026 after deciding to cease operating Tetris Block Party. The company identified the decision as an impairment indicator during the quarter, concluded the assets’ carrying value was not recoverable, and deemed a reduction in their remaining useful life appropriate. The charge relates primarily to capitalized internal-use software development costs and acquired technology.

PLAYSTUDIOS expects to cease operating Tetris Block Party in October 2026 and reduce the estimated remaining useful life of any assets that remain. The company is evaluating related accounting effects, and management expects to conclude its assessment and finalize the impairment charge with the quarterly report for the period ended September 30, 2026.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

Filing Explained

Beyond the disclosed Tetris asset charge, an open question is whether the shutdown triggers an interim goodwill impairment assessment; PLAYSTUDIOS is also reassessing contingent consideration and income-tax effects, with conclusions expected in its September-quarter Form 10-Q.

impairment charge financial
"non-cash, pre-tax impairment charge in the third quarter of 2026"
An impairment charge is an accounting write-down taken when a company determines an asset—like a building, patent, or investment—is worth less than its recorded value, similar to lowering the price tag on a used car when damage reduces its resale value. It matters to investors because it reduces reported profits and the company’s asset base, can signal business challenges or one-time losses, and may affect future earnings, creditworthiness, and valuation.
carrying value financial
"the carrying value was not recoverable"
Carrying value is the amount an asset is listed for on a company’s balance sheet after subtracting reductions for wear, age or loss of value from its original purchase cost. Think of it like the price shown in your records for a car after accounting for years of use; it may differ from what you could sell it for today. Investors watch carrying value because it affects reported profits when assets are sold or written down and influences balance-sheet strength and valuation ratios.
contingent consideration financial
"the reassessment of contingent consideration"
Contingent consideration is an additional payment agreed when one company buys another that will be paid later only if specific future targets are met, such as revenue, profit, or regulatory milestones. It matters to investors because it shifts risk between buyer and seller and affects the acquiring company's future cash flow and reported value — like promising a bonus after results are proven.
interim goodwill impairment assessment financial
"requiring an interim goodwill impairment assessment"

Item 2.06    Material Impairments.

On September 30, 2026, PLAYSTUDIOS, Inc. (the “Company”) made the decision to cease operation of the Company’s product called Tetris Block Party. The Company has determined that this decision constituted an indicator of impairment during the third quarter of 2026. An analysis was performed and as a result, a reduction in the Tetris Block Party assets’ useful life was deemed appropriate, and it was determined that the carrying value was not recoverable. In connection with these developments, on September 30, 2026 the Company concluded that it will recognize a non-cash, pre-tax impairment charge in the third quarter of 2026 in the range of $3.0 million to $3.5 million, in accordance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (“GAAP”). The impairment charge relates primarily to capitalized internal-use software development costs and acquired technology associated with Tetris Block Party. The Company expects to cease operation of Tetris Block Party in October 2026 and will reduce the estimated remaining useful life of any remaining Tetris Block Party assets accordingly.

The Company is also evaluating other potential accounting effects associated with these events, including the reassessment of contingent consideration and whether these events constitute a triggering event requiring an interim goodwill impairment assessment.

Management expects to conclude its assessment and finalize the impairment charges along with the assessment of the potential impact to income tax expense with the submission of its Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q for the period ending on September 30, 2026.
