Rhea-AI Filing Summary

National HealthCare Corporation (NHC) reported third-quarter 2026 net operating revenues of $407.971 million, up 6.6% from $382.661 million a year earlier. GAAP net income attributable to NHC was $13.637 million, compared with $39.239 million, while adjusted net income, excluding unrealized gains or losses on marketable equity securities and other non-GAAP adjustments, increased 13.8% to $28.154 million from $24.744 million. Diluted earnings per share were $0.85 GAAP and $1.76 adjusted, compared with $2.50 and $1.58, respectively.

NHC said the adjusted net income increase was driven primarily by its June 1, 2026 acquisition of five skilled nursing facilities with 639 licensed beds and its July 1, 2026 acquisition of the real estate of 32 skilled nursing facilities and three independent living facilities from National Health Investors, Inc. The 35 real estate assets have 4,825 licensed beds across Alabama, Florida, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Current and long-term debt was $502.063 million at September 30, 2026, compared with $40 million at December 31, 2025.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

adjusted net income financial
"adjusted net income for the quarter ended September 30, 2026"
Adjusted net income is a company's reported profit after removing unusual, one-time, or non-operational items so the number reflects the business’s regular earning power. Investors use it like a cleaned-up scorecard — similar to judging a player’s season performance without a few fluke games — to compare companies or assess trends without being misled by rare gains or losses that won’t affect future cash flow.
marketable equity securities financial
"unrealized gains or losses in our marketable equity securities portfolio"
Marketable equity securities are ownership shares in companies that can be quickly bought or sold on public exchanges or other active markets. They matter to investors because they can be converted to cash fast, affect a firm's reported assets and risk exposure, and their market price moves with investor sentiment—think of them like stocks on a busy trading floor that you can usually sell immediately if you need money or want to adjust your portfolio.
noncontrolling interest financial
"Net income attributable to noncontrolling interest"
The portion of a business owned by investors other than the controlling owner when one company has control of another; it represents outside shareholders’ share of the subsidiary’s assets and profits. For investors, it matters because those outside claims reduce the amount of profit and net assets attributable to the parent owner — similar to saying part of a pizza belongs to someone else — and thus affects earnings, book value and valuation.
