The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

"Natera's non-GAAP gross margin increased by approximately 1.4% sequentially"
Non-GAAP gross margin is a measure of a company's profitability that shows how much money it makes from sales after subtracting the direct costs of producing its products or services, but without applying certain accounting adjustments required by standard rules. It helps investors understand the company's core earning ability by excluding items like one-time expenses or accounting changes. This metric provides a clearer picture of ongoing business performance beyond official financial reports.

A companion diagnostic is a medical test designed to identify which patients are likely to benefit from a specific drug or medical treatment, much like a key that shows whether a particular lock will open. For investors, these tests matter because they can increase a drug’s chances of approval and market uptake, create a separate revenue stream, and reduce commercial risk by matching treatments to the patients most likely to respond.

Third Quarter Ended September 30, 2026 Financial Results

Total revenues were $794.0 million in the third quarter of 2026 compared to $592.2 million in the third quarter of 2025, an increase of 34.1%. The increase in revenues was driven by an increase in volume and average selling price improvements.
Natera processed approximately 1,093,100 tests in the third quarter of 2026, including approximately 1,080,300 tests accessioned in its laboratory, compared to approximately 893,600 tests processed, including approximately 879,700 tests accessioned in its laboratory, in the third quarter of 2025.

In the third quarter of 2026, Natera recognized revenue on approximately 1,024,800 tests for which results were reported to customers in the period (tests reported), including approximately 1,012,100 tests reported from its laboratory, compared to approximately 832,900 tests reported, including approximately 819,900 tests reported from its laboratory, in the third quarter of 2025, an increase of 23.0% from the prior period.

Gross profit1 for the three months ended September 30, 2026 and 2025 was $513.5 million and $384.4 million, respectively, representing a gross margin1 of 64.7% and 64.9%, respectively. This was primarily as a result of higher revenues and continued progress in reducing cost of revenues, offset by a smaller benefit from changes in estimates. Changes in estimates for the three months ended September 30, 2026 and 2025 increased revenue and, as a result, increased gross margin1 by 1.5% and 3.6%, respectively, and increased gross profit1 by $32.3 million and $55.1 million, respectively. The decrease in the change in estimate reflects the continued accumulation of historical collection experience, which has resulted in our estimates of variable consideration at the time of revenue recognition more closely approximating subsequent cash collections.

Gross margin1 for the three months ended June 30, 2026 was 64.5%. Excluding the change in estimates in revenue accruals of approximately $32.3 million and $52.3 million during the three months ended September 30, 2026 and June 30, 2026, respectively, Natera's non-GAAP gross margin2 increased by approximately 1.4% sequentially.

Total operating expenses, representing research and development expenses and selling, general and administrative expenses, for the third quarter of 2026 was $576.1 million, compared to $482.0 million in the same period of the prior year, an increase of 19.5%. The increase was primarily driven by headcount growth to support new product offerings as well as increases in clinical trial expenses. Amortization of acquired intangible assets for the third quarter of 2026 was $5.7 million. No such amortization occurred in the third quarter of 2025.

Loss from operations for the third quarter of 2026 was $68.3 million compared to $97.6 million for the same period of the prior year.

Natera’s net loss for the third quarter of 2026 was $59.9 million, or ($0.42) per diluted share, compared to a net loss of $87.5 million, or ($0.64) per diluted share, in the third quarter of 2025. Weighted average shares outstanding were 144.1 million in the third quarter of 2026 compared to 137.2 million for the same period in the prior year.
At September 30, 2026, Natera held approximately $1,097.2 million in cash, cash equivalents, and restricted cash, compared to $1,076.1 million as of December 31, 2025. As of September 30, 2026, Natera had a total outstanding debt balance of $80.3 million, including accrued interest under its line of credit with UBS at a variable interest rate of 30-day SOFR plus 50 bps.
