Qualcomm Incorporated reported softer operating results for the third quarter of fiscal 2026. Revenue was $9,947 million, down 4% from a year earlier, and net income fell to $2,002 million as gross margin compressed and R&D and SG&A spending rose. Diluted EPS was $1.87. QCT revenue declined to $8,504 million as handset demand weakened due to memory supply constraints and inventory adjustments at major OEMs, partly offset by strong growth in automotive and IoT. QTL licensing revenue slipped modestly to $1,278 million but maintained high margins.
Year‑to‑date results were boosted by a large U.S. tax benefit. For the first nine months, revenue was $32,798 million and net income rose to $12,377 million, driven by a $5,700 million release of a valuation allowance on federal deferred tax assets tied to recent tax law changes. The company also generated $1,458 million of investment and other income, including gains on QSI equity holdings. Strategic expansion continued with the $2.3 billion Alphawave acquisition to support the Data Center segment and the announced approximately $3.1 billion Modular AI software acquisition, while capital returns remained large with $6.8 billion of share repurchases, $2.9 billion in dividends and $20.6 billion still authorized for buybacks.
Qualcomm reported Q2 fiscal 2026 results with lower sales but sharply higher profit driven by a one-time tax benefit. Revenue was $10.6 billion, down 3% year over year, as handset chip demand softened while automotive and IoT grew.
Net income jumped to $7.4 billion, up 162%, mainly from a $5.7 billion income tax benefit tied to U.S. corporate alternative minimum tax guidance that allowed release of a deferred-tax valuation allowance. Operating trends were more muted, with gross margin slipping to 54% and higher R&D and SG&A from diversification and equity-based compensation.
QCT chip revenue fell 4% on weaker handset shipments but rose in automotive and IoT. QTL licensing revenue grew 5% on favorable mix. Qualcomm closed the $2.3 billion Alphawave acquisition to expand in data centers, authorized an additional $20.0 billion for stock repurchases, bought back $5.4 billion of shares in six months, and increased the quarterly dividend from $0.89 to $0.92 per share.
Qualcomm reported first-quarter fiscal 2026 revenue of $12.3 billion, up 5% from a year ago, while net income fell 6% to $3.0 billion as margins and expenses weighed on results. Equipment and services contributed $10.5 billion and licensing $1.8 billion.
Semiconductor unit QCT grew revenue 5% to $10.6 billion, with gains across handsets, automotive and IoT, though its margin slipped on higher costs. Licensing arm QTL increased revenue 4% to $1.6 billion and improved profitability through lower operating expenses.
Operating cash flow was strong at $5.0 billion. Qualcomm returned capital through $2.65 billion of share repurchases and $949 million of dividends, while also investing in growth via the $2.3 billion acquisition of Alphawave IP Group to bolster its data center strategy and four smaller deals totaling $846 million.
The company ended the quarter with $11.8 billion in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities versus $14.8 billion of long-term debt. Management highlighted a 15% effective tax rate influenced by recent U.S. tax reform and warned about memory supply constraints, intense competition, China exposure, customer vertical integration and ongoing legal and regulatory proceedings.
