SouthState Bank Q3 2026 profit falls to $224M
The board's $0.66 quarterly cash dividend has a November 6 record date and November 13 payment date.
Sentiment and the balance of points
Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.
SouthState Bank Corporation reported third-quarter 2026 net income of $223.8 million, compared with $246.6 million a year earlier; diluted earnings per share were $2.30 versus $2.42. Net interest income was $591.5 million, up 3% from the prior quarter, while net interest margin was 3.77%. Net charge-offs totaled $12 million, or 0.09% of average loans, and provision for credit losses was $20.3 million. Nine-month net income was $679.6 million, compared with $550.9 million in 2025.
As of September 30, 2026, loans were $52.1 billion, up 9% year over year, and deposits were $57.6 billion, up 7%; the ending loan-to-deposit ratio was 90%. Tangible book value per share was $58.19, 7% higher year over year, after SouthState raised the dividend by 10% and repurchased nearly 5% of its shares over the past year. The board declared a $0.66 quarterly cash dividend, payable November 13, 2026, to shareholders of record November 6, 2026. SouthState also repurchased 250,000 shares during the quarter at a weighted average price of $104.45.
How this balance works
Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.
It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.
Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.
Positive
- Moderate pointNine-month net income reached $679.6 million, versus $550.9 million.
- Moderate pointQuarterly dividend increased 10% to $0.66 per share.
Negative
- Moderate pointThird-quarter net income declined to $223.8 million from $246.6 million.

WINTER HAVEN, FL – October 21, 2026 – SouthState Bank Corporation (“SouthState” or the “Company”) (NYSE: SSB) today released its unaudited results of operations and other financial information for the three-month and nine-month periods ended September 30, 2026.
“The third quarter was marked by strong balance sheet growth and a stable net interest margin,” said John C. Corbett, SouthState’s chief executive officer. “Loans and deposits each grew at a 9% annualized rate, with growth broad-based across our geographies and business lines, and boosted by the bankers we've added over the past year. Asset quality remains favorable, and while capital markets activity softened as treasury yields rose, the core franchise continues to perform well.”

Non-GAAP Measures
Statements included in this press release include non-GAAP measures and should be read along with the accompanying tables that provide a reconciliation of non-GAAP measures to GAAP measures. Although other companies may use calculation methods that differ from those used by SouthState for non-GAAP measures, management believes that these non-GAAP measures provide additional useful information, which allows readers to evaluate the ongoing performance of the Company. Non-GAAP measures should not be considered as an alternative to any measure of performance or financial condition as promulgated under GAAP, and investors should consider the Company's performance and financial condition as reported under GAAP and all other relevant information when assessing the performance or financial condition of the Company. Non-GAAP measures have limitations as analytical tools, and investors should not consider them in isolation or as a substitute for analysis of the Company's results or financial condition as reported under GAAP.
