How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

fully tax-equivalent basis financial
"Net interest margin, on a fully tax-equivalent basis"
A fully tax-equivalent basis converts income or yield that is exempt from federal (and sometimes state or local) taxes into the pre-tax yield that a taxable investment would need to match it. It adjusts the reported after-tax return using an investor’s marginal tax rate so different securities can be compared on the same pretax scale—like converting prices into the same currency so you can compare costs directly.
efficiency ratio financial
"The efficiency ratio (a non-GAAP measure)"
A measure of how much a company spends to produce each dollar of revenue, usually shown as operating expenses divided by revenue and expressed as a percentage. Think of it as a household’s budget: a lower percentage means more of each dollar earned stays as profit, while a higher number means costs are eating into returns. Investors use it to judge cost control and compare how efficiently companies turn revenue into earnings, especially in banks and financial firms.
allowance for credit losses financial
"The allowance for credit losses to total loans"
Allowance for credit losses is a reserve set aside by a financial institution to cover potential losses from borrowers who may not repay their loans. It acts like a safety net, helping the institution prepare for loans that might turn sour. For investors, it signals how cautious the institution is about the quality of its loans and potential risks to its financial health.
reciprocal deposit network financial
"deposits in a reciprocal deposit network"
A reciprocal deposit network is a service banks use to split a large customer deposit across many partner banks so each portion stays within the limit covered by deposit insurance, effectively giving a single customer full insured coverage while funds sit at multiple institutions. For investors, this matters because it affects a bank’s funding stability and cost: access to insured deposits can make a bank’s funding more reliable and less risky, which in turn influences its liquidity profile and creditworthiness.
substandard loans financial
"Substandard loans decreased to $13.8 million"
Loans labeled as substandard have clear weaknesses—such as inconsistent payments, declining borrower income, or insufficient collateral—that make full repayment doubtful without corrective action. Think of them like a car with serious mechanical issues: it still runs but is likely to break down unless fixed. For investors, a rising share of substandard loans signals higher credit losses ahead, stronger reserve needs and pressure on a lender’s profits and capital cushions.
Net income $11.6 million Up 24.8% from third quarter 2025
Diluted earnings per common share $0.67 Compared with $0.55 in third quarter 2025
Net interest income $26.4 million Compared with $22.5 million in third quarter 2025

WEST BANCORPORATION, INC. ANNOUNCES THIRD QUARTER 2026 FINANCIAL RESULTS AND DECLARES QUARTERLY DIVIDEND

West Des Moines, IA - West Bancorporation, Inc. (Nasdaq: WTBA; the “Company”), parent company of West Bank, today reported third quarter 2026 net income of $11.6 million, or $0.67 per diluted common share, compared to second quarter 2026 net income of $11.1 million, or $0.64 per diluted common share, and third quarter 2025 net income of $9.3 million, or $0.55 per diluted common share. On October 28, 2026, the Company’s Board of Directors declared a regular quarterly dividend of $0.26 per common share. The dividend is payable on November 25, 2026, to stockholders of record on November 11, 2026.

David Nelson, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, commented, “Our net income for the first nine months of 2026 has increased 32 percent compared to the first nine months of 2025. Our annualized return on average equity has improved to 16.18 percent for the first nine months of 2026, compared to 14.27 percent for the first nine months of 2025 and our annualized return on average assets has grown to 1.16 percent in the third quarter of 2026. We are producing stronger profitability through margin expansion and expense discipline, while maintaining a strict underwriting culture and strong asset quality. Our balance sheet management strategies have resulted in a reduction in wholesale funding and steady growth in net interest income.”

Mr. Nelson added, “Our balance sheet remains exceptionally strong, supported by solid capital and liquidity levels. Credit quality remains pristine with no loans on nonaccrual status at September 30, 2026. Additionally, this marks our ninth consecutive quarter-end with no loans greater than 30 days past due.”

The average balance of FHLB advances declined $32.1 million in the third quarter of 2026 compared to the prior quarter as matured advances were not renewed.

•The efficiency ratio (a non-GAAP measure) was 47.81 percent for the third quarter of 2026, compared to 48.78 percent for the second quarter of 2026, primarily due to the increase in tax-equivalent net interest income.

NON-GAAP FINANCIAL MEASURES

This report contains references to financial measures that are not defined in GAAP. Such non-GAAP financial measures include the Company’s presentation of net interest income and net interest margin on a fully taxable equivalent (FTE) basis and the presentation of the efficiency ratio on an adjusted and FTE basis, excluding certain income and expenses. Management believes these non-GAAP financial measures provide useful information to both management and investors to analyze and evaluate the Company’s financial performance. These measures are considered standard measures of comparison within the banking industry. Additionally, management believes providing measures on a FTE basis enhances the comparability of income arising from taxable and nontaxable sources. Limitations associated with non-GAAP financial measures include the risks that persons might disagree as to the appropriateness of items included in these measures and that different companies might calculate these measures differently. These non-GAAP disclosures should not be considered an alternative to the Company’s GAAP results. The following table reconciles the non-GAAP financial measures of net interest income and net interest margin on a fully taxable equivalent basis and efficiency ratio on an adjusted and FTE basis.

(1)    Computed on a tax-equivalent basis using a federal income tax rate of 21 percent, adjusted to reflect the effect of the nondeductible interest expense associated with owning tax-exempt securities and loans. Management believes the presentation of this non-GAAP measure provides supplemental useful information for proper understanding of the financial results, as it enhances the comparability of income arising from taxable and nontaxable sources.
(2)     The efficiency ratio expresses noninterest expense as a percent of fully taxable equivalent net interest income and noninterest income, excluding specific noninterest income and expenses. Management believes the presentation of this non-GAAP measure provides supplemental useful information for proper understanding of the Company's financial performance. It is a standard measure of comparison within the banking industry. A lower ratio is more desirable.
