Rhea-AI Filing Summary

Xanadu Quantum Technologies Ltd (XNDU) received provisional approval for project funding worth up to USD $10 million under a one-year contract extension with DARPA through its Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI).

Over the next 12 months, Xanadu expects to provide DARPA regular progress reports for continued evaluation and directly allocate the majority of the funding to advancing components of its R&D roadmap. Xanadu said successful completion of Stage B evaluations maintains its path through QBI; concepts in the program will undergo formal verification and validation to assess whether they can be built as designed and operated as intended.

Filing Explained

Xanadu has incorporated this 6-K and its exhibit by reference into its Form S-8 registration statement, making them part of that statement from the October 19, 2026 submission date.

DARPA project funding Up to USD $10 million Provisional approval under the QBI contract extension
Contract extension One year Extension under DARPA’s QBI
Expected execution period Next 12 months Period for progress reports and planned R&D funding allocation
Quantum Benchmarking Initiative technical
"under DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI)"
utility-scale performance technical
"deliver utility-scale performance within realistic budgets"
photonic quantum computing technical
"a leading photonic quantum computing company"
Photonic quantum computing uses particles of light (photons) to carry and process quantum information instead of electrical signals, exploiting quantum properties like superposition and entanglement to solve certain problems much faster than conventional computers. For investors, it matters because photonic systems promise faster, cooler, and potentially more scalable quantum processors—similar to swapping a bicycle for a high-speed train for specific tasks—which could disrupt industries from drug discovery to encryption if commercialized successfully.
formal verification and validation technical
"undergo formal verification and validation"

Xanadu Secures Up to USD $10 Million in Additional DARPA Support to Accelerate Quantum R&D Roadmap

Continued DARPA investment reinforces Xanadu’s progress toward fault-tolerant, utility-scale photonic quantum computing

TORONTO, ON | October 19, 2026 /GLOBE NEWSWIRE/ — Xanadu Quantum Technologies Limited (“Xanadu”; NASDAQ/TSX: XNDU), a leading photonic quantum computing company, today announced that it has received provisional approval for project funding worth up to USD $10 million under DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI). This one-year contract extension reflects DARPA’s ongoing support and investment in Xanadu’s R&D, and builds on the company’s work in Stage B.

DARPA’s QBI program evaluates leading quantum computing architectures to determine which approaches can deliver utility-scale performance within realistic budgets and real-world timelines. Under this contract, Xanadu expects to execute a dual-purpose strategy over the next 12 months; providing regular progress reports to DARPA for continued evaluation, while directly allocating the majority of the funding to accelerate the advancement of critical components in its R&D roadmap.

Xanadu believes that its photonic quantum computing architecture offers distinct advantages over traditional quantum systems. Most notably, it has minimal cooling requirements due to room-temperature compute operations, a modular, networkable design, and fast clock speeds. The company’s latest photonic quantum computer, Aurora, not only validates the scalability and viability of Xanadu’s photonic approach by demonstrating networkability, but the Company believes it also establishes a foundation for all future fault-tolerant quantum systems—systems built to tackle the world’s most intractable problems.

“Ongoing participation in QBI reinforces Xanadu’s goal of developing quantum computing solutions that deliver practical value across industries, including drug discovery, advanced chemistry, aerospace, defense, and AI,” said Dr. Christian Weedbrook, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Xanadu.

Successful completion of Stage B evaluations maintains Xanadu’s path through the DARPA QBI program, where quantum computer concepts will undergo formal verification and validation to ensure they can be constructed as designed and operated as intended.
