Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

Aviat Networks (AVNW) launched the WTM 4400, an all-outdoor microwave radio supporting four independent channels, and is now accepting orders.

Shipments commence in early calendar year 2027. Aviat says the radio supports capacity of up to 5 Gbit/s using four 112 MHz channels or 3 Gbit/s using four 80 MHz channels, with two transceivers. Its stated features include automatic power boosts during weather-related signal fading and remote software upgrades from two-channel operation that increase link capacity by up to 100% without additional hardware or site visits. The company also describes smaller antenna requirements and up to 50% lower power consumption than alternative solutions.

Key Terms

transceivers, mean time between failure (mtbf), capex, opex
4 terms
transceivers technical
"using only two transmitters/receivers (transceivers)"
Transceivers are hardware devices that both send and receive electronic or light-based signals, acting like a two-way mailbox or translator that lets machines talk to each other. For investors they matter because transceivers are essential parts of networks, telecom gear and data centers; changes in demand, supply shortages, price shifts or new technology standards can directly affect manufacturers’ revenues, profit margins and the performance of connected systems.
mean time between failure (mtbf) technical
"higher mean time between failure (MTBF) for fewer failures"
Mean time between failures (MTBF) is a reliability metric equal to the total operating time of a group of repairable units divided by the number of failures observed; it estimates the average elapsed operating time between successive failures for that population. MTBF is calculated as (sum of operating hours across all units) ÷ (number of failures) and is a statistical measure — it does not predict the exact life of a single unit and depends on test conditions, usage patterns and maintenance practices. For non‑repairable items the related term is mean time to failure (MTTF); MTBF also does not include time required to repair or restore a failed unit unless specified as part of a different metric.
capex financial
"reducing infrastructure CAPEX and OPEX"
Capex, short for capital expenditures, refers to the money a company spends to buy, upgrade, or maintain physical assets such as buildings, equipment, or technology. It matters to investors because these investments can help a company grow and improve its long-term performance, but they also represent significant costs that can impact profitability and cash flow.
opex financial
"reducing infrastructure CAPEX and OPEX"
Operating expenses (often abbreviated opex) are the day-to-day costs a company incurs to run its business, such as employee pay, rent, utilities, and routine marketing. For investors, opex matters because higher or rising operating costs reduce profits and cash available for growth or dividends, while lower or well-controlled opex can indicate better efficiency—think of it as a household’s monthly bills that determine how much is left to save or invest.

Four Carriers in One All-Outdoor Radio, a New Benchmark in Microwave Transport

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 13, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Aviat Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVNW), the expert in wireless transport and access solutions, today announced the WTM 4400, also known as the 'Quad', which is the only solution on the market to support 4 independent microwave channels in one all-outdoor radio unit.

Aviat Networks, Inc. Logo

The Highest Capacity in One box

Aviat's Quad supports the highest capacity microwave links in a single all-outdoor unit, up to 5 Gbit/s in 4x 112 MHz channels (ETSI) or 3 Gbit/s in 4x 80 MHz channels (ANSI), without external combining, antenna mediation devices, or indoor units. All traffic aggregation is performed using Aviat's patented Layer 1 Link Aggregation (L1LA) algorithm.

Maintain high-priority traffic with Adaptive Dual Channel and Power Boost

The Quad supports 4 channel aggregation using only two transmitters/receivers (transceivers) thanks to Aviat's unique Adaptive Dual Channel (A2C+) feature, halving the hardware required compared to traditional methods that need one transceiver per channel. The Quad also adapts to weather conditions by reverting to two-channel operation during a deep fade event and applying an automatic Power Boost of up to 7.5 dB to keep high-priority traffic running without interruption. Full capacity returns automatically when the fade ends.

Smaller Antennas, Lower Tower Related Costs, Longer Distance Links

With A2C+, the Quad combines 4 channels onto a single antenna without the significant loss of RF couplers resulting in up to 10 dB more system gain compared to alternative 4+0 solutions. This enables operators to deploy 4+0 links using antennas that are 50% smaller, reducing antenna and related shipping and installation costs, and tower loading and lease fees, which results in significant year on year savings. Alternatively, operators can use the extra power to deploy longer links with same antenna size compared to competing solutions.

Double Link Capacity Remotely via Software

Operators can deploy the Quad operating in two-channel mode, and then when needed can enable the additional channels to increase link capacity by up to 100%. This can be achieved remotely via software in a matter of minutes, with no additional hardware and no site visits or tower climbs.

Operational Simplicity, Lower OPEX

The Quad does it all in one box mounted directly to a standard microwave antenna, compared to alternative solutions which may require up to 4 outdoor radios with external couplers and an indoor unit. Just one unit to order, ship, install and maintain, one network element to configure and manage, up to 50% reduction in power consumption, and higher mean time between failure (MTBF) for fewer failures.

"The Quad delivers higher capacity and longer links at the lowest possible total cost of ownership," said Pete Smith, CEO of Aviat Networks. "WTM 4400 is the perfect solution for operators upgrading network capacity and reducing infrastructure CAPEX and OPEX."
