Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

News Explained

BancFirst says $1.8 million of the quarter’s $4.0 million in net charge-offs came from purchased credit-deteriorated loans it had identified at acquisition and reserved for expected credit losses; those loans later performed in line with expectations, putting part of the reported charge-offs in the context of credit risks identified at purchase.

Key Terms

5 terms
net interest margin financial
"Net interest margin was 3.85% for the third quarter of 2026"
Net interest margin measures how much a bank earns from lending and investing compared with what it pays for funding, expressed as a percentage of its interest-earning assets. Think of it like a grocery store’s markup: it shows the gap between buying cost and selling price per dollar of goods — here, the cost is interest paid and the sale is interest received. Investors watch it because a higher margin usually means a bank is more profitable and better at managing interest rate and credit conditions.
provision for credit losses financial
"The Company recorded a provision for credit losses of $3.1 million"
Provision for credit losses is an amount set aside by a financial institution to cover potential future losses from borrowers who may not repay their loans. It acts like a safety net, helping the institution manage risks and stay financially healthy. For investors, it signals how cautious a lender is about potential loan defaults and can impact the company's profitability and financial stability.
nonaccrual loans financial
"Nonaccrual loans represented 0.87% of total loans"
Nonaccrual loans are loans a lender has stopped counting toward interest income because the borrower is overdue or unlikely to pay; the lender only records cash payments received and may set aside extra funds to cover potential losses. For investors, a rising number or amount of nonaccrual loans signals weaker credit quality, lower future interest revenue and larger potential write-downs — similar to pausing expected subscription income when many customers stop paying.
allowance for credit losses financial
"The allowance for credit losses to total loans was 1.23%"
Allowance for credit losses is a reserve set aside by a financial institution to cover potential losses from borrowers who may not repay their loans. It acts like a safety net, helping the institution prepare for loans that might turn sour. For investors, it signals how cautious the institution is about the quality of its loans and potential risks to its financial health.
net charge-offs financial
"Net charge-offs totaled $4.0 million for the quarter"
Net charge-offs are the amount of loans or credit a lender removes from its books as uncollectible after subtracting any money later recovered from previously written-off accounts. Think of it like a store writing off unpaid tabs but getting back a few dollars later — the net figure shows the real loss. Investors watch this to judge a lender’s loan quality, future profits and how much capital may be needed to cover bad debts.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oct. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- BancFirst Corporation (NASDAQ GS: BANF) reported net income of $67.3 million, or $1.97 per diluted share, for the third quarter of 2026 compared to net income of $62.7 million, or $1.85 per diluted share, for the third quarter of 2025.

The Company's net interest income for the three-months ending September 30, 2026 increased to $136.0 million from $125.6 million for the same period in 2025. Higher loan volume and general growth in earning assets were the primary drivers of the change in net interest income. Net interest margin was 3.85% for the third quarter of 2026 compared to 3.79% for the third quarter of 2025. The Company recorded a provision for credit losses of $3.1 million and $4.4 million for the quarters ended September 30, 2026 and 2025, respectively.

Noninterest income for the quarter totaled $51.4 million compared to $49.9 million for the same quarter last year. Service charges on deposits and treasury income each increased when compared to third quarter of 2025.

Noninterest expense grew to $98.2 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 compared to $92.1 million in the same quarter in 2025. The increase in noninterest expense was primarily attributable to the growth in salaries and employee benefits of $4.1 million.

At September 30, 2026, the Company's total assets were $15.0 billion, an increase of $182.3 million from December 31, 2025. Loans grew $187.9 million from December 31, 2025, totaling $8.7 billion at September 30, 2026. Deposits totaled $12.7 billion, an increase of $29.3 million from year-end 2025. Sweep accounts totaled $4.7 billion at the end of the third quarter, down $282.5 million from December 31, 2025. The Company's stockholders' equity stood at $2.0 billion, an increase of $142.9 million from the end of 2025.

Nonaccrual loans represented 0.87% of total loans at September 30, 2026, up from 0.72% at year-end 2025. Nonaccrual loans totaled $75.6 million at the end of the third quarter 2026; one commercial loan was the primary driver of the nonaccrual loans balance. The allowance for credit losses to total loans was 1.23% at September 30, 2026 and 1.22% at December 31, 2025. Net charge-offs totaled $4.0 million for the quarter compared to $1.7 million for the third quarter last year. Of the $4.0 million net charge-offs for the quarter, $1.8 million was related to purchased credit deteriorated loans. At acquisition, the Company identified these loans as credit deteriorated and recorded reserves for expected credit losses. These loans performed in line with expectations subsequent to acquisition.

BancFirst Corporation CEO David Harlow commented, "Earnings for the quarter were strong, driven by growth in earning assets, a sustained margin, year-over-year growth in non-interest income combined with expenses in line with plan. Capital levels remain strong and the allowance for credit losses is ample – both at levels necessary to support the Company through future economic cycles. Asset quality metrics are stable and charge-offs remain in line with historical levels. While business development pipelines are encouraging, we expect higher interest rates and a higher-for-longer rate outlook to have a dampening effect on future economic activity. Our previously announced acquisition of Tulsa-based Spirit Bank is on schedule to close in October."
