Key Terms

agronomist technical
An agronomist is a scientist who studies and advises on growing crops, soil health, and farming practices to maximize yield, reduce waste, and manage risks. For investors, agronomists matter because their work affects production costs, crop quality, and sustainability — similar to a mechanic tuning an engine so a farm or agri-business runs more efficiently and predictably, which influences revenue and long-term value.
agronomy technical
Agronomy is the science and practice of growing crops and managing soil to get the best, most reliable harvests. For investors, agronomy matters because it influences crop yields, production costs, and long-term sustainability—think of it as the recipe and maintenance plan for a farm that determines how much product is available, how expensive it is to produce, and how resilient the business is to weather, pests, or regulatory changes.
irrigation management technical
Irrigation management is the planning and control of how, when and how much water is delivered to crops or landscapes to keep plants healthy while minimizing waste and cost. For investors it signals how efficiently a farm, agricultural technology company, or water-related business uses a scarce resource; better management can boost yields and reduce operating costs, regulatory risks, and water fees, much like tuning a car for better fuel economy.
turfgrass technical
Turfgrass is the types of grass grown and managed as a uniform groundcover for lawns, parks, sports fields and roadside verges, selected for durability, appearance and tolerance of foot traffic. Investors watch turfgrass because it drives demand for seeds, landscaping services, irrigation, fertilizers and equipment; changes in water rules, consumer preferences or maintenance technology can affect costs and revenues much like choosing a carpet for a high‑traffic room changes cleaning and replacement needs.
