LYNCHBURG, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- BWX Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BWXT) today announced that it has received an inaugural investment grade credit rating of BBB with a Stable Outlook from Fitch Ratings, Inc. (“Fitch”). Fitch assigned BWXT’s revolving credit facility a BBB+ rating and its 4.125% senior notes due in 2028 and 2029, BBB ratings.

“We are pleased to receive a BBB investment grade rating from Fitch, reflecting our critical role in providing nuclear solutions to national security and commercial power customers, strong financial position and disciplined approach to capital allocation,” said Mike Fitzgerald, BWXT’s chief financial officer. “This achievement reflects the actions we have taken to optimize our balance sheet while maintaining the financial flexibility to invest in our business and support long-term growth.”

In assigning the rating, Fitch cited BWXT’s strong position in providing critical nuclear reactor components and fuel for the U.S. naval propulsion and other strategic government programs, backed by its specialized licenses, intellectual property and ability to meet stringent regulatory requirements. Fitch also cited multi-year revenue visibility and cash flow stability, supported by BWXT’s robust backlog, as well as its conservative financial policy and financial flexibility to fund growth initiatives while maintaining leverage consistent with the investment grade rating.

Key Terms

investment grade financial
A credit rating label assigned to bonds or borrowers that signals relatively low risk of default; think of it as a strong health check for a company's or government's ability to repay debt. It matters to investors because investment-grade status typically means lower interest costs for the borrower, greater eligibility for conservative funds and pension portfolios, and generally more stable returns compared with higher-risk, non-investment-grade debt.

revolving credit facility financial
A revolving credit facility is a type of loan that a business can borrow from whenever it needs money, up to a set limit. It’s like having a credit card for companies—allowing them to borrow, pay back, and borrow again as needed, providing flexibility for managing cash flow or funding short-term expenses.
senior notes financial
Senior notes are a type of loan that a company borrows from investors, promising to pay it back with interest. They are called "senior" because in case the company faces financial trouble, these lenders are paid back before others. This makes senior notes safer for investors compared to other types of loans or bonds.
