Veteran technology leader brings rare experience spanning global banking, public service and mission-critical cloud infrastructure to support Crosspoint's portfolio

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Crosspoint Capital Partners ("Crosspoint Capital"), an investment firm focused on cybersecurity and its intersection with infrastructure software, today announced the addition of Clark Smith, former Chief Cloud Officer and Head of Cloud Technology Services at Citi (NYSE: C), to its operating team.

Smith has spent his career building and operating technology in environments where security, resilience and scale are critical. His experience spans senior technology leadership at major global financial institutions and more than a decade of public service across the Department of Justice, the Intelligence Community and the Department of Homeland Security. That combination gives him a distinctive perspective on what large enterprises require from the technology platforms they depend on.

"Clark is a builder who has operated in environments where technology simply cannot fail. He brings a rare combination of engineering depth, public-sector and intelligence-community experience, and firsthand knowledge of what it takes to run critical infrastructure at global financial scale," said Samir Kapuria, Managing Director of Crosspoint Capital. "That perspective is enormously valuable to our portfolio as we help our companies build platforms that the world's most demanding enterprises can trust."

As an Operating Partner at Crosspoint, Smith will work alongside the firm's investment and portfolio teams, applying his experience in cloud infrastructure, enterprise architecture, security and resilience to technology strategy, platform scaling and the evaluation of emerging technologies. He will also bring the perspective of a large-enterprise technology operator to product strategy and customer value creation.

Prior to joining Crosspoint, Smith served as Chief Cloud Officer and Head of Cloud Technology Services at Citi, where he oversaw global technology infrastructure operations and helped ensure the resilient, secure and cost-effective growth of Citi's enterprise technology architecture. He previously held major technology leadership roles at TD Bank and Deutsche Bank. Before entering financial services, Smith spent more than a decade in public service leading key technology and program initiatives across the Department of Justice, the Intelligence Community and the Department of Homeland Security, where his contributions were recognized with numerous medals and commendations.

"AI and cloud computing are changing what enterprises expect from the software and infrastructure they rely on. Clark has spent his career on the operator side of that equation, responsible for technology in some of the world's most complex environments," said Greg Clark, Managing Partner of Crosspoint Capital. "His combination of technical depth, operational experience and enterprise customer perspective will be incredibly valuable to Crosspoint and our portfolio companies."

Smith joins Crosspoint amid significant growth for the firm. Since its founding in 2020, Crosspoint has grown to $8.6 billion in assets under management and established a differentiated model that combines investment professionals, experienced operating executives and deep sector expertise to provide capabilities and perspective to its portfolio companies.

Crosspoint has invested in companies across network security, endpoint security, digital trust, authentication, software supply chain security, agentic security operations and applied artificial intelligence. Starting in 2025, Crosspoint extended its commitment to cybersecurity innovation by offering each of the Top 10 Finalists in the RSA Conference Innovation Sandbox contest a $5 million uncapped Simple Agreement for Future Equity (SAFE) investment. Recent portfolio outcomes include Cisco's July 2026 acquisition of WideField to boost its Agentic SOC capabilities and F5's September 2025 acquisition of CalypsoAI to bring advanced AI guardrails to large enterprises.

Key Terms

cloud infrastructure technical
Cloud infrastructure is the network of remote servers, storage, networking and basic software that companies rent over the internet instead of owning their own physical data centers — like using a utility grid or renting a fully equipped office rather than buying a building and furniture. Investors care because it changes how a company spends money, scales operations, launches products and manages risk: it can lower upfront costs, speed growth, concentrate vendor or outage risk, and influence recurring revenue and margins.
enterprise architecture technical
Enterprise architecture is a high-level blueprint showing how an organization’s technology, data, processes and people fit together to achieve its goals — like a city master plan mapping roads, utilities and zoning so everything works in sync. Investors care because it affects how efficiently a business can scale, control costs, manage risk and launch new products; a clear, well-executed architecture reduces wasted spending and execution uncertainty, making future performance easier to judge.
simple agreement for future equity financial
A simple agreement for future equity is an investment contract that gives an investor the right to receive company shares at a later financing event or sale instead of getting shares immediately. Think of it like a voucher that converts into ownership once the company’s value is formally set; it matters to investors because it fixes how and when ownership is awarded, affects how much of the company they ultimately own, and influences dilution and return potential.
