- November 2024 - HM Treasury publishes the National Payments Vision, responding to the 2023 Future of Payments Review, with innovation, competition and security as its three pillars.
- July 2025 - The Payments Vision Delivery Committee (PVDC) agrees on a new public-private delivery model, establishing the Retail Payments Infrastructure Board (RPIB) and a new industry-led Delivery Company.
- 7 November 2025 - The PVDC publishes its Strategy for Future Retail Payments Infrastructure.
- 26 February 2026 - HM Treasury publishes the Payments Forward Plan, a regulatory roadmap covering 2026 to 2028.
- 25 June 2026 - The RPIB launches its consultation on the design of the future retail payments infrastructure. Responses close 11 September 2026.
- 2 July 2026 - The PVDC publishes an update on future roles and responsibilities across the retail payments ecosystem.

Research was conducted by Censuswide among a sample of 350 Payment Directors, Heads of Payments Technology, CTOs, COOs, Fintech & Payment Service Providers, Regulators, Public Authorities, Policy-Adjacent Organisations and Mid-Market Corporates. Data was collected between 17 and 25 June 2026. Censuswide is a member of the Market Research Society (MRS) and the British Polling Council (BPC), and a signatory of the Global Data Quality Pledge, adhering to the MRS Code of Conduct and ESOMAR principles.
The sample comprised Tier 1 and 2 Banks (140 respondents), Fintechs and Payment Service Providers (87), Mid-Market Corporates (70), and Regulators, Public Authorities and Policy-Adjacent Organisations (53).
