Key Terms

multi-gigabit technical
Multi-gigabit describes data transmission speeds that are several times faster than one gigabit per second, typically meaning network links or devices that can handle multiple gigabits of data each second. For investors, higher speeds are like widening a highway: they enable more users and services to run smoothly, support new bandwidth-hungry applications, and often signal demand for upgraded equipment and infrastructure that can drive revenue growth.
symmetrical Internet technical
A symmetrical internet connection delivers the same upload and download speeds, like a two-way highway with equal lanes in each direction. For investors, this matters because businesses and cloud services pay premiums for reliable, fast uploads as well as downloads; companies that provide symmetrical service often serve high-value commercial customers, show steadier revenue from business contracts, and face different infrastructure and regulatory costs than providers focused only on consumer download speeds.
wifi technical
Wi-Fi is a technology that lets devices like phones, laptops, and sensors connect wirelessly to the internet and to each other over short distances, using radio signals instead of cables. For investors it matters because Wi‑Fi affects how products work, how businesses run and scale, and where revenue or costs may come from—think of it as the invisible roadway that enables digital services, office productivity, retail checkout and many internet‑connected devices to function reliably.
sd-wan technical
SD‑WAN is a technology that uses software to control and direct wide-area network traffic between offices, data centers and cloud services instead of relying solely on traditional hardware routers. Think of it as a smart traffic manager that chooses the fastest, cheapest or safest route for each data flow, improving performance, cutting telecom costs and simplifying upgrades. Investors care because it can lower operating expenses, enable faster cloud adoption and create steady demand for networking and security services.
cloud connectivity technical
Cloud connectivity is the ability of computers, devices, or business systems to link with remote computing services and data stored on the internet so they can send, receive, and process information. For investors it matters because strong, reliable cloud links let companies scale services, lower IT costs, support remote work or online products, and reduce downtime risk—similar to a dependable highway that lets goods move quickly and keeps customers satisfied.
unified communications technical
Unified communications is a set of tools and services that combine phone calls, video meetings, instant messaging, voicemail, and file sharing into a single, connected system so employees can communicate from one place—like a smartphone that brings all apps together. Investors care because it can lower communication costs, speed decision-making, improve customer response, and make a company more scalable and secure, all of which can affect productivity and profitability.
4k streaming technical
4k streaming is the delivery of video over the internet at roughly four times the detail of standard high-definition, typically about 3,840 by 2,160 pixels, producing a sharper, more lifelike picture. It matters to investors because it changes what viewers pay for and how much network capacity and storage providers must supply—think of it like upgrading from a small car to an SUV: it carries more value but consumes more fuel, affecting subscription revenue, advertising appeal, data costs, device sales and the infrastructure companies that support them.

More Than 3,300 Homes and Businesses in Rural Florida Will Be Connected to America’s Smartest and Most Reliable Converged WiFi Network for the First Time

LEON COUNTY, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Comcast announced today that efforts are ongoing and underway to bring rural Floridians world-class connectivity. More than 100 previously unserved homes and businesses in Leon County’s Chaires community now have access to multi-gigabit, symmetrical Internet from America’s smartest and most reliable converged network. This summer, construction will continue to expand the network to more than 3,200 additional locations in Leon County’s rural communities, bringing them high-speed Internet access for the very first time.

The project was made possible thanks to a public-private partnership with the state of Florida’s Broadband Opportunity Program and includes locations in and around the communities of Blocker, Concord, Felkel, Gardner, Lutterloh, Meridan, Miccosukee, Wadesboro and Woodville.

“Access to fast, reliable Internet is no longer a luxury, it’s how people participate in everyday life,” said Christian Caban, Chairman of the Leon County Board of County Commissioners. “This expansion helps close the digital divide in our rural communities and continues our commitment to ensure every family, student, and small business in Leon County has a fair shot to succeed in today’s economy.”

Xfinity brings Internet, mobile, entertainment, and smart home services into one simple, seamless solution – giving customers more speed, savings, and control over their connected lives. These Leon County communities join the 65 million homes and businesses nationwide with access to a network that fuels innovation, productivity, and everyday connection.

“This is a really exciting step forward for Leon County,” said Keith Bowers, Director for the Office of Economic Vitality. “Reliable, high‑speed Internet opens the door to so many opportunities for our residents and small businesses, and we’re thrilled to see more rural communities coming online soon. We appreciate Comcast’s partnership and their continued investment in connecting more corners of our beautiful community.”

Residents can visit Xfinity.com/mytown and enter their addresses for additional details on construction timing and upcoming service availability. The project is expected to be completed in Fall 2026.

“We’re proud to be building a new fiber network to bring fast, reliable Internet to Leon County communities that simply have not had it,” said Kristeen Cominiello, Regional Senior Vice President of Comcast Florida. “For many families, this will be their first experience with this level of connectivity, unlocking new opportunities for education, jobs, small businesses, and staying connected to loved ones. We’re excited to expand Xfinity and Comcast Business services and help more people fully participate in today’s digital world.”

Comcast’s most recent expansion in Leon County is part of the company’s latest investment in Florida, which also includes expansions to Bradford County, Lake County, and Nassau County. In 2025, Comcast achieved a record-breaking year of growth in Florida by expanding access to more than 120,000 additional homes and businesses across the state.
