symmetrical internet technical
A symmetrical internet connection delivers the same upload and download speeds, like a two-way highway with equal lanes in each direction. For investors, this matters because businesses and cloud services pay premiums for reliable, fast uploads as well as downloads; companies that provide symmetrical service often serve high-value commercial customers, show steadier revenue from business contracts, and face different infrastructure and regulatory costs than providers focused only on consumer download speeds.
multi-gigabit internet technical
Multi-gigabit internet describes consumer or business internet service that delivers data speeds measured in multiple gigabits per second (i.e., several billion bits per second), far faster than typical broadband. It matters to investors because these higher speeds act like adding many lanes to a digital highway—enabling large file transfers, cloud use, high-definition streaming and new services—which can drive demand for network upgrades, higher customer bills, and growth opportunities for equipment makers and service providers.
sd-wan technical
SD‑WAN is a technology that uses software to control and direct wide-area network traffic between offices, data centers and cloud services instead of relying solely on traditional hardware routers. Think of it as a smart traffic manager that chooses the fastest, cheapest or safest route for each data flow, improving performance, cutting telecom costs and simplifying upgrades. Investors care because it can lower operating expenses, enable faster cloud adoption and create steady demand for networking and security services.
cloud connectivity technical
Cloud connectivity is the ability of computers, devices, or business systems to link with remote computing services and data stored on the internet so they can send, receive, and process information. For investors it matters because strong, reliable cloud links let companies scale services, lower IT costs, support remote work or online products, and reduce downtime risk—similar to a dependable highway that lets goods move quickly and keeps customers satisfied.
unified communications technical
Unified communications is a set of tools and services that combine phone calls, video meetings, instant messaging, voicemail, and file sharing into a single, connected system so employees can communicate from one place—like a smartphone that brings all apps together. Investors care because it can lower communication costs, speed decision-making, improve customer response, and make a company more scalable and secure, all of which can affect productivity and profitability.
5g technical
5G is the fifth generation of wireless technology that provides faster internet connections, lower latency, and greater capacity than previous networks. It enables quicker downloads, smoother streaming, and more reliable connections for devices. For investors, 5G represents a significant upgrade in technology infrastructure that can drive growth in related industries such as smartphones, smart cities, and the Internet of Things.
4k streaming technical
4k streaming is the delivery of video over the internet at roughly four times the detail of standard high-definition, typically about 3,840 by 2,160 pixels, producing a sharper, more lifelike picture. It matters to investors because it changes what viewers pay for and how much network capacity and storage providers must supply—think of it like upgrading from a small car to an SUV: it carries more value but consumes more fuel, affecting subscription revenue, advertising appeal, data costs, device sales and the infrastructure companies that support them.

Network Expansion Connects More Than 8,800 Homes and Businesses, Expanding to More of Columbia County Next

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Comcast has completed a significant network expansion in Northeastern Pennsylvania, delivering reliable, high-speed, symmetrical Internet to more than 8,800 homes and businesses across Carbon, Luzerne, and Schuylkill counties. This expansion has brought multi-gigabit Internet, mobile, entertainment, and security services from Xfinity and Comcast Business to these areas for the first time.

“We’re grateful that Comcast’s investments in Schuylkill County have brought us cutting-edge Xfinity and Comcast Business services,” said Larry Padora, Chair of the Schuylkill County Commissioners. “It’s important to provide our community with the best options for secure WiFi and affordable mobile — delivering speed and reliability to the parents who work from home, the students who learn online, and the local businesses that serve our community.”

Specifically, residents of Banks Township in Carbon County, Hazle Township in Luzerne County, and Blythe, Delano, East Norwegian, Kline, Rush, Schuylkill, and Walker Townships, as well as McAdoo, Middleport, New Philadelphia, and Tamaqua Boroughs in Schuylkill County, can now visit Xfinity.com to check if their address is eligible for service. The neighborhood of Kaska will be connected by spring 2026.

“I’m so glad I made the switch to Xfinity Internet. I got the five-year price guarantee and couldn’t be happier with the WiFi speeds,” said Xfinity customer Wendy Dempsey of Middleport Borough.

Xfinity Stores are located in Wilkes-Barre at 1150 Highway 315, and in Wyomissing at 2777 Papermill Road, to help residents explore Internet plans with a five-year price guarantee and deals on Xfinity Mobile and Comcast Business Mobile.

What’s Next: Central Columbia County

Building on this expansion, Comcast has begun connecting the first homes and businesses in Mifflin Township and will soon expand service across North Centre, Orange, Scott, and South Centre Townships — bringing multi-gigabit Internet to more than 2,700 homes and businesses in Columbia County. This project is also paving the way for future expansion toward Bloomsburg and Danville. Soon, these communities will join the nearly 65 million locations nationwide already connected to America’s smartest and most reliable converged network.

“Our continued growth in Carbon, Columbia, Luzerne, and Schuylkill counties underscores our commitment to delivering the ultimate WiFi experience throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania,” said Ricky Frazier Jr., Comcast Regional Senior Vice President. “With multi-gigabit speeds powered by our advanced network, cost-saving wireless options through Xfinity Mobile, and a five-year price guarantee on Xfinity Internet, we’re giving residents powerful new ways to stay connected, productive, and entertained.”

What It Means for Northeastern Pennsylvania

This work follows Comcast’s recent expansion that brought connectivity to more than 18,500 additional homes and businesses in Carbondale and along Route 11, including in Berwick, Briar Creek, Plymouth, and Shickshinny.

Comcast’s commitment to communities goes beyond building the network and aims to increase economic mobility for the local community and its residents. That’s why Comcast created Internet Essentials, a broadband adoption program that offers eligible households low-cost, high-speed Internet and affordable computers. Additionally, Comcast has made significant investments into nonprofits focused on helping people build digital skills, expanding WiFi-connected Lift Zones, and funding connectivity and Internet adoption programs.
