Key Terms

cumulative minimum rate reset first preferred shares financial
A type of preferred stock that pays regular dividends which accumulate if unpaid, carries a guaranteed minimum payment rate, and periodically resets its dividend rate based on market interest benchmarks; “first preferred” indicates higher claim on dividends and assets than ordinary shares. Think of it like a bond whose interest can adjust with the market but never falls below a floor, so investors get income with some protection against rate drops and priority over common shareholders.
cumulative floating rate first preferred shares financial
A class of preferred stock that pays shareholders regular dividends whose rate moves up or down with short-term interest rates, gives those shareholders first claim ahead of other preferred holders, and requires the company to make up any missed dividend payments before paying common shareholders. Think of it like a bond with an adjustable interest rate plus a rule that unpaid interest accumulates and must be settled later; investors care because it offers income that tracks interest-rate changes and greater payment priority in tough times.
short form base shelf prospectus regulatory
A short form base shelf prospectus is a pre-approved, reusable document that lets a company register a pool of securities (like stocks or bonds) it can sell over time without repeating a full disclosure process each time. Think of it as a menu the company files once so it can quickly offer items from that menu later; investors care because it speeds up capital raises, can dilute existing holdings, and signals the company’s ability to access funding when needed.
prospectus supplement regulatory
A prospectus supplement is an additional document provided alongside a company's main offering details, offering updated or extra information about a specific financial product being sold. It helps investors understand the latest terms, risks, and details of the investment, similar to how an update or revision clarifies or expands on original instructions, ensuring they have current and complete information before making a decision.
sedar+ regulatory
SEDAR+ is Canada’s centralized online system where publicly traded companies submit required regulatory documents such as financial reports, prospectuses and disclosure statements. It gives investors a single, searchable place — like a public library or online filing cabinet — to check a company’s official records for transparency, compare performance, and verify material information before making investment decisions.
