Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

READING, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- EnerSys (NYSE: ENS), a global leader in stored energy solutions for industrial, infrastructure, and defense applications, today announced the new generation of high-efficiency Cordex® CXPS DC power system configurations, built around the new Cordex® HP 48V-5.0kW rectifier for cable broadband and communications network applications.

Delivering up to 97.1% peak efficiency, 5.0kW maximum output and 15kW/RU power density, the new rectifier is intended for integration with the Cordex® CXPS-HX, CXPS-C and CXPS-W power systems. The planned integrations bring higher conversion efficiency and power density into DC power system configurations for headends, hubs and central offices, where energy use, power capacity and available space are increasingly linked. The rectifier is certified to CSA/UL 62368-1 (Edition 3) for Canada and the United States, and IEC/EN 62368-1 (Edition 3) for Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa.

As broadband networks expand capacity, the physical infrastructure supporting them does not necessarily expand at the same rate. Operators increasingly need to accommodate higher DC loads within existing rack and floor-space constraints while also managing the recurring energy cost of continuously powered network facilities.

At the module level, the Cordex® HP 48V-5.0kW rectifier addresses both constraints: less energy lost in conversion and more power delivered per rack unit.

A System-Level Approach to Efficiency

Planned integration across compatible Cordex® CXPS power systems extends these efficiency benefits beyond the rectifier module:

  • Energy efficiency: Up to 97.1% peak conversion efficiency reduces AC-to-DC conversion losses, helping lower the energy required to support a given DC load and reduce heat generated within the facility.
  • Rack-space efficiency: At 15kW/RU power density, the rectifier enables more DC capacity within a given rack footprint, providing greater flexibility for the system configuration and future, capacity requirements.
  • Facility-space efficiency: Front-access Cordex® CXPS-HX and CXPS-W power systems can eliminate the rear maintenance clearance requirement by traditional rear-access designs. In a representative 10-foot by 8-foot shelter layout with one power system and two battery racks, this configuration can reclaim up to 17.5% of total floor space.
  • Deployment efficiency: Universal AC input reduces the need for multiple input-specific rectifier variants, simplifying specification, inventory, staging and spare-parts management.

“Broadband operators are being asked to add network capacity while working within existing energy, rack-space and facility constraints,” said John Hewitt, Vice President, Communications, Americas, EnerSys. “That is why we see efficiency increasingly as a system-level issue, not simply a rectifier specification. The Cordex® HP 48V-5.0kW rectifier gives operators a way to improve conversion efficiency and power density while leveraging the space and access advantage of our Cordex® CXPS power systems.

The Cordex® HP 48V-5.0kW rectifier is progressing through validation toward phased commercial availability. Initial commercial availability is planned for approved greenfield applications, with additional Cordex® CXPS power system configurations and selected installed-base applications following as applicable system-level validation, certification and commercial-readiness activities are completed.

EnerSys to Showcase Cordex® HP 48V-5.0kW Rectifier at SCTE TechExpo26

At the event, EnerSys will demonstrate the rectifier integrated into a front-access Cordex® CXPS-HX power system, highlighting its combination of high conversion efficiency, power density and front-access serviceability.

SCTE TechExpo26 takes place September 29 through October 1, 2026, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

Key Terms

power density technical
Power density measures how much energy a device or system can produce or transfer in a given amount of space or volume, often expressed as power per unit area or volume. It helps investors understand how efficiently a technology can deliver energy or performance relative to its size, which can influence decisions about its practicality and potential for scaling up. High power density typically indicates a compact, powerful solution, while lower values suggest larger, less intense options.
ac-to-dc conversion technical
Conversion from alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) is the electrical process that changes the back-and-forth flow of electrons in household or grid power into a steady one-way flow used by most electronic devices and batteries. It matters to investors because the efficiency, cost, size and heat produced by AC-to-DC systems affect product performance, operating expenses, manufacturing margins and regulatory compliance; think of it as a car’s transmission translating one type of motion into another with energy losses and design trade-offs.
csa/ul 62368-1 regulatory
A jointly published safety standard used in North America that adopts IEC 62368-1 requirements for audio, video, and information-technology equipment; the CSA/UL 62368-1 label indicates a product was tested for electrical and fire hazards using a modern, hazard-based approach rather than older prescriptive rules. It matters to investors because this certification is often required for legal market access, reduces product recall and liability risk, and can affect a manufacturer’s ability to sell devices across regulated markets—similar to a vehicle needing a safety inspection before it can be legally driven.
iec/en 62368-1 regulatory
IEC/EN 62368-1 is an international and European safety standard for audio/video, information and communication technology equipment that sets design and testing rules to reduce risks such as electric shock, fire, and mechanical hazards. It matters to investors because compliance determines whether devices can be legally sold and insured in many markets, affects manufacturing costs and recall risk, and is like a building code that products must meet before they reach customers.
