Key Terms

merchant services financial
Merchant services are the set of tools and systems that let businesses accept and manage electronic payments — for example card readers, online payment gateways, processing software, fraud checks and the transfer of funds into a bank account. Investors care because these services generate recurring fees and transaction-based revenue, reveal how much consumer spending flows through a platform, and expose companies to operational risks like fraud, chargebacks or changing payment rules; think of it as the cash register and bank behind every card sale.
transaction processing technical
The series of steps that take a financial action—such as a trade, payment, or account update—from initiation to completion, including verification, recording and confirmation. Investors care because faster, accurate and secure processing reduces errors, lowers costs, ensures regulatory compliance and preserves customer trust—similar to a restaurant kitchen turning orders into finished plates reliably and on time, which keeps customers coming back and operations profitable.
