Recent Company History

Over the past few months, Gran Tierra’s key milestones included Q1 2026 results on May 7 with strategic portfolio moves and revised guidance, followed by routine AGM and voting updates on May 8. On March 17, the company announced the initial Tisquirama partnership with Ecopetrol and separate board changes that reduced directors from nine to five. Today’s announcement that all conditions precedent for the Tisquirama Contract are satisfied builds directly on the March 17 partnership, advancing that strategic development toward execution.

Key Terms

working interest, barrels of oil equivalent, boepd, waterflood, +4 more
8 terms
working interest financial
"by which the Company will earn a 49 percent working interest in the Tisquirama block"
The working interest is the percentage ownership one party holds in an oil or gas lease that gives them the right to a share of production and also the obligation to pay a proportional share of exploration, development and operating costs. Think of it like owning a slice of a cake but also agreeing to pay part of the bill to bake it: a larger working interest means bigger potential revenue when wells produce, but also larger exposure to costs and liabilities if things go wrong.
barrels of oil equivalent technical
"Production is expressed in barrels of oil equivalent (“boe”) per day (“boepd”)."
Barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) is a way to measure and compare different types of energy resources, like oil and natural gas, in a common unit. It helps investors understand the total amount of energy a company has or produces, regardless of the resource type, by converting natural gas into a comparable oil amount. This simplifies assessing a company's overall energy assets and making informed investment decisions.
boepd technical
"Production is expressed in barrels of oil equivalent (“boe”) per day (“boepd”)."
Barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) is a unit that converts all forms of hydrocarbon production—oil, natural gas and liquids—into the energy equivalent of barrels of crude oil and then reports the average output per day. Investors use boepd to compare production scale and growth across companies and projects the way you might compare total calories from different foods: it puts different fuels on a common, easy-to-understand basis for assessing revenue potential and operational efficiency.
waterflood technical
"apply its proven waterflood expertise and operational model to assets"
Waterflood is a method oil producers use to get more oil out of an underground reservoir by pumping water into the ground to push remaining oil toward production wells. It matters to investors because it can raise short‑term output, extend the life of a field and change the cost and value of reserves — like squeezing extra syrup from a sponge by flushing it with water, improving how much product a given asset can deliver.
original oil in place technical
"assets with significant original oil in place (“OOIP”) that have historically"
Original oil in place (OOIP) is an estimate of the total quantity of crude oil contained in a subsurface rock formation before any production has occurred, like measuring how much water a sponge holds before you squeeze it. For investors it matters because OOIP sets the physical ceiling on how much oil could possibly be recovered; combined with the share that can realistically be produced (the recovery factor), it helps determine reserve size, potential revenue and the technical and financial risk of a project.
ooip technical
"original oil in place (“OOIP”) that have historically seen limited secondary"
Original oil in place (OOIP) is an estimate of the total volume of oil contained in a subsurface reservoir before any production, like measuring how much water a sponge holds rather than how much you can squeeze out. Investors care because OOIP indicates the size of the resource and sets the upper limit on potential production and value, but actual returns depend on how much of that oil can be economically recovered and the cost of extracting it.
infill drilling technical
"development through wellbore optimization and low-risk infill drilling."
Infill drilling is the targeted drilling of additional holes inside an area where mineral deposits have already been found, done to fill gaps in knowledge about how much rock or metal is really there and how continuous it is. For investors this matters because better, denser data reduces uncertainty about a project’s size and value, similar to taking more detailed photos of a landscape to judge how much land you actually own and how usable it is.
gas-to-power technical
"including integrated water management, the potential implementation of gas-to-power projects"
Gas-to-power is the process of using natural gas as the fuel to generate electricity, usually by burning the gas in turbines or engines at power plants. For investors it matters because the economics, profitability and risk of such projects depend on gas prices, plant efficiency, environmental rules and reliability—think of it like using a home furnace to heat a house, where fuel cost and appliance efficiency determine your monthly bill and long-term value.

CALGARY, Alberta, May 27, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Gran Tierra Energy Inc. (“Gran Tierra” or the “Company”) (NYSE American:GTE)(TSX:GTE)(LSE:GTE) is pleased to announce today that the Company has satisfied all outstanding conditions precedent to the effectiveness of the contract previously announced on March 17, 2026 with Ecopetrol S.A., by which the Company will earn a 49 percent working interest in the Tisquirama block located in the Middle Magdalena Valley Basin of Colombia (the “Block”), which contains the Tisquirama and San Roque fields (the “Fields”) (the “Tisquirama Contract). Production is expressed in barrels of oil equivalent (“boe”) per day (“boepd”). All dollar amounts are in United States (“U.S.”) dollars unless otherwise indicated.

The Tisquirama Contract provides Gran Tierra with the opportunity to apply its proven waterflood expertise and operational model to assets with significant original oil in place (“OOIP”) that have historically seen limited secondary recovery and relatively low recovery factors. The Fields are adjacent to Gran Tierra’s operated Acordionero field and share similar geological characteristics, creating the potential for operational synergies and integrated field development.

Under the terms of the Tisquirama Contract, Gran Tierra is expected to focus initial Phase 1 capital activity on waterflood expansion from the Company’s operated Acordionero field into the adjoining Fields before accelerating development through wellbore optimization and low-risk infill drilling. Completion of Phase 1 is achieved with a minimum of $15 million of gross capital expenditures and implementation of continuous water injection, which is currently anticipated to be achieved in the first quarter of 2027, subject to approval of the corresponding plans by the executive committee. Upon completion of Phase 1, Gran Tierra will receive 49 percent of existing base production in addition to 49 percent of incremental production. The Fields averaged approximately 2,500 boepd on a gross basis during 2025.

Gran Tierra expects the Tisquirama Contract to create meaningful operational synergies with Acordionero, including integrated water management, the potential implementation of gas-to-power projects utilizing natural gas production in the area, and the opportunity to manage the Fields as a single operating hub to improve efficiency and maximize long-term value.

Presentation of Oil and Gas Information

Boes have been converted on the basis of six thousand cubic feet (“Mcf”) natural gas to 1 boe of oil. Boes may be misleading, particularly if used in isolation. A boe conversion ratio of 6 Mcf: 1 boe is based on an energy equivalency conversion method primarily applicable at the burner tip and does not represent a value equivalency at the wellhead. In addition, given that the value ratio based on the current price of oil as compared with natural gas is significantly different from the energy equivalent of six to one, utilizing a boe conversion ratio of 6 Mcf: 1 boe would be misleading as an indication of value.

References to a formation where evidence of hydrocarbons has been encountered is not necessarily an indicator that hydrocarbons will be recoverable in commercial quantities or in any estimated volume. Gran Tierra’s reported production is a mix of light crude oil and medium heavy crude oil, tight oil, conventional natural gas, shale gas and natural gas liquids for which there is no precise breakdown since the Company’s sales volumes typically represent blends of more than one product type. Well test results should be considered as preliminary and not necessarily indicative of long-term performance or of ultimate recovery. Well log interpretations indicating oil and gas accumulations are not necessarily indicative of future production or ultimate recovery. If it is indicated that a pressure transient analysis or well-test interpretation has not been carried out, any data disclosed in that respect should be considered preliminary until such analysis has been completed. References to thickness of “oil pay” or of a formation where evidence of hydrocarbons has been encountered is not necessarily an indicator that hydrocarbons will be recoverable in commercial quantities or in any estimated volume.
