Key Terms

aggregate technical
A combined total or summary created by adding together multiple parts or data points. Used as a noun and a verb, it means pooling individual items (sales, revenues, assets, transactions, or data) into one overall figure so stakeholders can see the big picture; like pouring many small jars into a single container to measure the total amount. Aggregate figures matter to investors because they show the overall size, trend, or exposure of a business or market rather than the detail of each component.
limestone technical
A sedimentary rock made mostly of calcium carbonate, limestone is a common raw material used in construction, cement, steelmaking, agriculture (soil pH adjustment), and various industrial processes. Investors watch limestone because its availability, quality, and price affect costs and margins for companies in building materials, mining, and heavy industry—think of it as a basic building block commodity that feeds many supply chains, so changes in its supply or demand can influence related businesses.
quarry technical
A quarry is an open-pit site where rock, stone, sand, gravel or other construction materials are excavated from the ground for sale. For investors, a quarry represents a physical asset and a source of revenue tied to the demand for building materials, similar to a farm that produces a crop: its output, operating costs, reserve size and permitted life span affect a company’s cash flow and valuation. Quarry operations also carry environmental and regulatory factors that can influence profitability.

WATSONVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Memphis Stone & Gravel, A Granite (NYSE: GVA) Company, announced today that it has opened the new River Yard aggregate sales facility in Memphis, Tennessee. Strategically located on the Mississippi River, the River Yard receives limestone products barged from Warren Paving's Slats Lucas Quarry in Salem, Kentucky, connecting operations within Granite's integrated materials network to create long-term value across the Southeast.

The six-acre site officially opened in July 2026. The initial inventory of limestone products includes 610s, No. 8, 810, No. 57 and No. 4 stone.

For Memphis Stone & Gravel, the River Yard facility marks a meaningful expansion of its product portfolio.

“We’re proud to say this site is officially open for business. Effectively, we’re putting the stone back in Memphis Stone & Gravel,” says Alan Parks, vice president of Memphis Stone & Gravel. “For decades, our business has primarily focused on sand and gravel products. This new integration with the materials from Warren Paving allows us to re-enter the stone market, expanding our product portfolio, and creating new opportunities to serve customers throughout the region.”

The new facility reinforces Granite’s home market strategy in the Southeast by widening the company’s materials portfolio in one of the fastest-growing regions of the country.

“By combining Warren Paving’s Slats Lucas Quarry resources with Memphis Stone & Gravel’s market presence, we’ve created an opportunity to support and strengthen our Memphis home market while delivering greater value to customers,” explains Clint Cleland, Granite vice president of materials market strategy.
