enterprise risk technical
"nearly three decades of actuarial and enterprise risk leadership across the insurance"
Enterprise risk is the combined set of major threats and uncertainties across an entire organization—financial, operational, regulatory, strategic, or reputational—that can prevent it from meeting goals or producing returns. Investors care because these risks influence future cash flows, costs, and the company’s long-term value; assessing enterprise risk is like checking a ship’s watertight compartments to judge how well it will survive storms and continue delivering returns.
reinsurance financial
"across the insurance and reinsurance industries"
Reinsurance is when insurance companies buy insurance for themselves to protect against very big losses. It’s like a car owner getting extra coverage from another company so that if there's a serious accident, the financial hit isn’t all on one company. This helps insurance companies stay stable and able to pay out when disasters happen.
actuarial function technical
"Most recently, he headed the actuarial function at Arch Insurance Company Ltd."
A company's actuarial function is the team or role responsible for measuring and modeling future insurance-related costs, such as claims, reserves and the assumptions behind pricing. Like an engineer who estimates how much material a building needs, actuaries use statistics and scenarios to set technical provisions, test the models that feed financial reports and regulatory capital, and flag hidden risks that affect a firm’s balance sheet and valuation. Investors watch it because its work underpins reported liabilities and risk metrics.
