Key Terms

neural networks technical
A neural network is a type of computer model that learns to recognize patterns by adjusting many simple connections, similar to how a brain’s network of neurons strengthens certain pathways after practice. Investors care because these models can analyze large, messy datasets to forecast trends, detect fraud, or automate decisions, potentially improving trading signals or operational efficiency; their performance and transparency can materially affect a company’s competitive edge and risk profile.
multi-factor optimization algorithms technical
Multi-factor optimization algorithms are computer-based methods that choose and weight investments by simultaneously considering several characteristics—such as price, growth, volatility and momentum—so a portfolio balances competing goals. Think of it like packing for a trip using multiple checklists (comfort, weather, space) to arrive at the best overall selection; for investors these algorithms automate trade-offs, shape expected returns and risks, and can reduce human bias and implementation errors.
weighted satisfaction function technical
A weighted satisfaction function is a numerical recipe that combines several different measures of success or preference into one score by giving each measure a chosen importance (weight). Think of it like averaging thumbs-up ratings from different reviewers but letting some reviewers count more than others; investors use it to compare projects, products or policies that affect revenue, risk or compliance when trade-offs matter. It matters because the chosen weights shape decisions and reported performance, so changes can materially affect valuation, resource allocation and risk assessments.
autonomous commerce technical
Autonomous commerce is when buying, selling, inventory management and payment processes are carried out by software and machines with little or no human intervention — like a smart vending machine that automatically restocks, prices items and pays suppliers. For investors, it matters because it can lower operating costs, speed growth and create new revenue streams, while also shifting capital needs, risk profiles and regulatory exposures for companies that adopt it.
natural language interaction technical
A way for people to talk or type to a computer system and get useful answers, actions, or documents back in ordinary language, like chatting with a helpful assistant. Investors care because it can speed customer service, automate routine tasks, extract insights from reports, and reduce costs or risk from human error—factors that can affect a company’s revenue, efficiency and regulatory compliance.

Expanded patent portfolio protects the firm’s leadership in adaptive technologies that power intelligent negotiation

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Information Services Group (ISG) (Nasdaq: III), a global AI-centered technology research and advisory firm, today announced it has secured a U.S. patent for a sophisticated computational engine that can balance competing interests and negotiate contract terms.

U.S. patent #12,572,606, issued March 10, 2026, is the firm’s third patent in AI-powered contracting. It establishes foundational IP protection for ISG for adaptive, self-improving negotiation technologies that will drive a new class of intelligent negotiation systems.

“This technology has the potential to replace the traditional, manual process of exchanging ‘redlined’ document edits with an automated, optimization-based approach to agreement,” said Rekha Acharya, partner, ISG Governance Services. "Our latest patented technology enables our intelligent contracting platform to deliver a fair agreement in seconds and sets the stage for future AI systems to negotiate autonomously."

The ISG automatic document negotiation engine employs neural networks and multi-factor optimization algorithms to identify document sections, apply a "weighted satisfaction function" and dynamically adjust values to find the specific combination that maximizes the priorities of all stakeholders.

The system also converts qualitative preferences into discrete numerical values, providing an autonomous commerce model where two independent AI systems can negotiate directly with one another.

This patented decision-making framework underpins a new class of intelligent negotiation systems, enabling conversational chatbot negotiation, voice and natural language interaction and real-time contract refinement. By continuously updating its internal value functions through user feedback and historical performance data, the system becomes progressively more effective.

“Our third patent offers clients exclusive access to an automated approach that optimizes for specific business outcomes and reconciles multiple contractual priorities,” Acharya said. “In addition to faster contract cycle times, reduced negotiation friction and a less costly contract-to-close ratio, this technology sets the standard for the future of autonomous commerce, when AI agents negotiate contracts for human review.”

ISG’s earlier contracting technology patents cover the ability to enable document generation using historical contracts and data sets and recommend tailored contract language.

All three patents bolster the core intelligent contracting capability of ISG GovernX®, a market-leading SaaS platform that automates the management of the entire contract lifecycle and provides a transparent, consolidated and standardized view into contract performance, spend, opportunity and risk across the enterprise contract portfolio.
