A follow-on CROSSBOW™ defense order of about $10M saw a -6.76% move, while a prior UPC patent ruling affecting under 1% of sales produced a 5.43% gain. 5 terms
unified patent court regulatory
"the Local Division of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) located in Düsseldorf"
A unified patent court is a single legal forum that hears and decides patent disputes across multiple countries at once, acting like one central courtroom instead of many separate national courts. For investors, it matters because decisions there can affect the value and enforceability of a company’s patents across a whole region at once—similar to a single referee whose ruling changes the score for every team—impacting revenue risk, litigation costs and long-term competitive advantage.
european patent regulatory
"lasers infringed European Patent 2,624,031. The decision impacts AMB"
A European patent is a legal award that gives the holder exclusive rights to an invention in the specific European countries they choose, granted through a centralized application process. Think of it as a set of keys that can lock competitors out of particular national markets; for investors it signals potential protected revenue, licensing opportunities and a stronger competitive position, though enforcement and exact coverage depend on each designated country.
injunction regulatory
"Remedies available to the patent owner, including an injunction, recall and"
A court order that tells a person or company to stop doing (or requires them to start doing) a specific action, like selling a product, closing a deal, or carrying out a transaction. For investors it matters because an injunction can pause revenue-generating activities or delay mergers and trades—like a legal “pause button” that can quickly change a company’s cash flow, risk profile, and share price while the court matter is resolved.
recall regulatory
"Remedies available to the patent owner, including an injunction, recall and"
A recall is an official action to remove or fix a product that may be unsafe, defective, or mislabeled, often ordered by regulators or initiated voluntarily by the maker. For investors it matters because recalls can halt sales, generate direct costs (repairs, replacements, settlements) and harm a company’s reputation—like a sudden safety alert that forces a store to pull items off shelves and can reduce future demand and profit.
damages regulatory
"including an injunction, recall and damages, may be enforced and determined"
Damages are money a court or regulator requires a person or company to pay to compensate for harm, loss, or breach of a legal duty. For investors, damages matter because they represent a direct cash cost or potential liability that can reduce profits, drain cash reserves, and affect a company’s value—think of them like a large, unexpected bill that comes after a damaging event.

MARLBOROUGH, Mass., March 16, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IPG Photonics Corporation (NASDAQ: IPGP), the global leader in fiber laser technology, announced today that the Local Division of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) located in Düsseldorf, Germany has issued a decision in a patent infringement case brought by Trumpf SE & Co. KG (“Trumpf”).

The court ruled that certain uses and designs of IPG’s adjustable mode beam (AMB) lasers infringed European Patent 2,624,031. The decision impacts AMB laser products sold in Germany, France and Italy, affecting less than 1% of IPG’s total sales.

The Company is implementing contingency measures to support AMB customers. Other lasers models made by IPG were not involved in the lawsuit and IPG’s product portfolio remains broadly available. Remedies available to the patent owner, including an injunction, recall and damages, may be enforced and determined at a subsequent time after the required conditions have been satisfied.

IPG respectfully disagrees with the decision and plans to file an appeal with the UPC Court of Appeal and pursue other measures available to it.

IPG previously disclosed that affiliates of Trumpf have brought two separate actions in the Unified Patent Courts in Mannheim, Germany and Düsseldorf, Germany asserting two different patents against IPG’s AMB lasers. IPG previously announced the Mannheim court’s decision and IPG’s intention to appeal. Today’s announcement relates solely to a different patent asserted in the separate Düsseldorf proceeding.
